Six teens are devoted to a game with one rule: If a player gets tagged, they must change their life within the next fifteen minutes. The better the player, the bigger the change. One might give their car away, or punch the school bully. Another might change identities or sacrifice their virginity. Anything to keep evolving, to avoid fitting into a label or caring about the junk they own. But their quest for enlightenment has taken a rotten final turn - one of the players has murdered the game's creator, the teen prophet (cult leader?) David Bloom.
Our narrator is being framed for the crime; can he clear his name and discover which of his lifelong friends is the murderer before he takes the fall?
[sic] is a gritty teen murder mystery that delves into the psychology of enlightenment among the criminally dysfunctional.

So to start with, I hated the writing. The constant incomplete sentences were driving me insane! Secondly, I didn‘t like any character besides Nora. And lastly, I didn‘t buy the appeal of David. He was supposed to have these kids wrapped around his finger but I didn‘t buy the charisma.

Pickpick

Jacob grows up with a group of friends playing a game of tag called Eureka. After being tagged, that person has 15 minutes to change their outcome.

Many years ago, I happened upon the rough draft of this book and found it to be a page turner. I have thought of this book many times throughout the years and was glad to find it as a book, so of course I bought it. The characters are not always the most favorable but it‘s an interesting read.

In the section I read today, the main character expresses most anxiety/ guilt due to the consequences of this game he plays. This connects to the real world because most people regret things that they have done in the past. Whether these things affected other people or not, there is a chance that it still had an effect on us/them.

The chapters I read today consisted of the game's back story and how the characters ended up in their place right now. It gave a slight peek of the main character's current situation but was more focused on the origin story of the game.

The author is able to create pictures using different types of figurative language. they use descriptive words to describe the characters. For example “(character name) had on clothes that looked like rags. His shoes looked as if they had been picked out from the dumpster.“ These help me create an image of my head of what the character looks like. They are also able to describe the setting with great detail.

Mystery/ Thriller
Currently, this story takes place in a town called Kingwood County, a town where not everyone is nice. I am sure that if the setting were to be in a better environment then it would change the whole story. First of all, If the story took place in a good environment, the dangerous game they play would not have been created. Second, A happy environment would not lead them to make the decisions they made in the book.

Mystery/Thriller
In this story, there are 5 or 6 main characters, each part of a dangerous game that they chose to be in. This specific game had caused many things in their life to swerve in the other direction, their decisions affecting those around them. The consequences of their actions have included getting arrested, close deaths, harm to family members, etc. The plot, however, has not been progressed so far.

This book caught my eye because of the interesting summary and description of the story. The summary states that the book would start out normal and will eventually progress into a more intense story and it describes how the plotline would go without giving much away.
The genre of this book is mystery/ thriller, which is both my top pick when it comes to books.
