1) I used to enjoy Post Apocalyptic works more, but as they are starting to feel more & more like nonfiction I have a deeper appreciation for Alternate History.
2) For Post Apocalyptic I recommend Canticle for Leibowitz & Wyndham's Chrysalids. I feel like Chrysalids is especially an under the radar gem. For Alternate History I recommend Tynion's graphic novel series The Dept of Truth & Weisman's deeply researched imagining of a future world.
