I Would Leave Me If I Could
I Would Leave Me If I Could: A Collection of Poetry | Halsey
8 posts | 8 read
Grammy Awardnominated, platinum-selling musician Halsey is heralded as one of the most compelling voices of her generation. In I Would Leave Me If I Could, she reveals never-before-seen poetry of longing, love, and the nuances of bipolar disorder. In this debut collection, Halsey bares her soul. Bringing the same artistry found in her lyrics, Halseys poems delve into the highs and lows of doomed relationships, family ties, sexuality, and mental illness. More hand grenades than confessions, these autobiographical poems explore and dismantle conventional notions of what it means to be a feminist in search of power. Masterful as it is raw, passionate, and profound, I Would Leave Me If I Could signals the arrival of an essential voice. Book cover painting, American Woman, by the author. Halsey, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and recipient of the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fames Hal David Starlight Award. She lives in Los Angeles, California.

This is very pretty on the outside. But tbh I sort of expected more. I did really like a couple of the poems.

I'm a huge fan of Halsey, so discovering a book of poetry written by her was a dream!
Sadly it didn't amaze me, there were a few I liked but most of them had very similar themes and sounded more like songs than poetry, though I guess they are pretty much the same? 🤷‍♀️
I did find it worth reading but I'll stick to Edagr Allan Poe for my poetry.

TW: Sexual abuse, violence.
Not sure how I feel about the whole collection but I definitely enjoyed a number of the poems. It is really interesting spotting lyrics from her songs in her poetry. The imagery is a bit gross at times and there are heavy themes of sexual abuse and violence. Overall, it's an interesting read.

Halsey is a talented artist who‘s been through a lot. When I saw her book of poems hit the bestseller list I requested a hard cover copy. The textured cover was a nice touch. I enjoyed her poems, some were inspiring, but not all of them resonated.

Small B&N haul - because I really went to Christmas and swap shop, but I love Halsey, and didn‘t know she recently released this collection of poetry! Also picked up their thriller book club pick, because I do enjoy debut thrillers!

MyNamesParadise I bought The Witch Hunter when I went to Barnes & Noble last week! It looks really good! 4y
