pickThis rich family saga set in #Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina revolves around a multinational family. The story has a very dynamic structure, diverse, thoughtful characterisation, main focus is on the secrets/resentments/forgetfulness that shape family relationships - setting boundaries between personal relationships, and more broadly, by setting borders between the newly formed states.

I opened boxes and emptied them, flicking though every book and imagining a little Anya turning the cover for the first time, for the first time stepping into the magical world of Roald Dahl or William Saroyan, not hearing the voices telling her it was time for dinner, nor the knocks on the door, and her saying Coming! without taking her nose out of her book.
