My Life in Transition
My Life in Transition | Julia Kaye
6 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
The follow-up to the critically acclaimed autobiographical comics collection Super Late Bloomer, documenting transgender artist Julia Kaye's life post-transition. eMy Life in Transition is a story that's not often told about trans lives: what happens beyond the early days of transition. Both deeply personal and widely relatable, this collection illustrates six months of Julia's life as an out trans woman--about the beauty and pain of love and heartbreak, struggling to find support from bio family and the importance of chosen family, moments of dysphoria and misgendering, learning to lean on friends in times of need, and finding peace in the fact that life keeps moving forward. After the nerve-wracking, anxiety-ridden early transition period has ended and the hormones have done their thing, this book shows how you can be trans and simply exist in society. You can be trans and have a successful future. You can be trans and have a normal life full of ups and downs. In our current political and social climate, this hopeful, accessible narrative about trans lives is both entertaining and vital.

This collection is full of little, everyday moments where I‘m just like, “YES.” I wonder this every time I encounter a Very Serious Person. Do they not get jokes? What is the inside of their head like? Do they believe in fun? #gaymay

I love Julia‘s heartfelt journal comics! They show snapshots of things she‘s struggling with, positive moments, and humorous situations. She shares a lot about relationship struggles, heartbreak, recovering from heartbreak, and her experiences as a trans woman. #Nonfiction #Comic #JournalComic #LGBTQ #Transgender

Out trans woman Julia Kaye documents six months of her daily life in comic strips. Her emotional support comes from friends and chosen family. She‘s honest about the ups and downs, yet always manages to see the humour in being human. Sweet and uplifting. #trans #queer #LGBT #graphicnovel

It‘s cool to find out in this book what ‘teet yeet complete‘ means in the same week that a member of my extended family had top surgery. 😁🏳️‍🌈

Seeing soft butch women in the media and online makes my heart swell. I see a reflection of part of myself in them I didn‘t realize needed validation. A reminder that there are countless ways to present myself as a woman.

Got an ARC of this one, a cute and genuinely fun comic, focusing on relationships, romantic, familial and particularly with found family, while also dealing with transitioning, and the dysphoria borne of anxiety and just existing as a trans person.
