Mason Dixon and the Ghost Dinosaur
Mason Dixon and the Ghost Dinosaur: A New Templars Novella | Eric Asher
5 posts | 1 read
The best-selling author of The Vesik series flexes his comedy muscles in a hilarious new comedy urban fantasy series! They are the first line of defense against the things that go bump in the night. They are the keepers of a centuries-old legacy of The Church defending the world against the forces of darkness. They are a bunch of highly armed rednecks, internet video celebrities, soccer moms, and assorted broken nutjobs. They are the new Templars, and things are about to get weird. From the pages of Bubba the Monster Hunter comes a new series featuring the Hunters from around the United States hunting down monsters, fighting off supernatural baddies, and making life really, really bad for the things that hunt people. Now Mason Dixon is back, and this time his problems are bigger than ever! Like, dino-sized! The sasquatch is on his side, the zigmals are cute, and the gowrows are downright adorable, but when Mason Dixon and his sidekick Emma run afoul of not only a dinosaur, but also MoMo the Missouri Monster, he's in for the fight of his life! The New Templars novella series is a new series of short novels, similar to BookShots. Mason Dixon - Monster Hunter is the first in the series by popular urban fantasy and steampunk author Eric R. Asher.

I enjoyed all three novellas and I‘m sad that there aren‘t more from this author. I‘m from Missouri and reading these stories really gave me a twinge of nostalgia. I can‘t wait to read more in the Bubbaverse!

The second book in the series is good too but I didn‘t find passages that resonated with me like in the first one.

Ok, one more about the first book. This passage really resonated with me because there was a bridge near my aunt and uncle‘s house that was rusted and literally had boards down for the road. People would take farming equipment over it! It was over railroad tracks and it always freaked me out. I‘m not sure if it‘s why I hate crossing bridges but it didn‘t help. It‘s gone now, I think. But it still haunts me.

From the first book....I‘m from Missouri and yes, it floods. I got a kick out of the reference to Casey‘s.

What‘s interesting is I‘ve never once heard of any of the cryptids (other than sasquatches, but I don‘t think they‘re exclusive to Missouri) that are supposedly from Missouri so maybe I didn‘t live in the right part of the state for that???! I was more familiar with the cryptids from the other series, and it took place in Pennsylvania.

Daisey This made me laugh out loud, both the mud reference and Casey‘s. Definitely sounds like Missouri. 4y
jpmcwisemorgan @Daisey Right?! One side of my hometown floods A LOT so that part was, yup, that‘s accurate. I know a lot of small towns have a Casey‘s and that might be one of the few places to get something like a pizza for takeout. Just a lot of memories coming back with these books! 4y

Ok, so I discovered the Bubbaverse because I binge read a bunch of novellas from a different author. I‘ll have to explain the Bubbaverse later. Just know that it‘s a long series of short stories and novellas with a monster hunter named Bubba and other authors have written in it. The photo is of the first book in Asher‘s take on the Bubbaverse.
