I was not prepared for how emotional this book was. I figured a middle grade story wouldn't have such intense topics, but I was wrong. It was a great story, one that I will probably read again.
I loved Stella‘s courage, loyalty, and passion. Everything about this book was perfect. Reading it was like curling up in bed with a four legged friend while she told her story to me, her warmth blanketing me from beginning to end. Don‘t let the target audience deter you on this one. You're never too old to bring Stella into your life!

“Maybe love isn‘t something that can be earned through good work or destroyed by bad mistakes. Maybe true love is trusting someone or something so much that you feel safe enough to be yourself with them.”
Stella just described coffee as “bitter beans and hot water” and I think this is what I will now call that beverage moving forward. 😂
Esperanza‘s lips wiggle as if she‘s holding back a real smile, which is something I‘ll never understand about humans.
Dogs don‘t hold back smiles. When a dog wants to smile, she smiles. There is no shame in stretching your lips back to your ears or even in letting your tongue hang out.
