The perfect family. The perfect chance. The perfect lie. A stunning novel about motherhood and betrayal, for readers who love Sarah Vaughan and Louise Candlish. ‘Deliciously dark and totally twisted’ ERIN KELLY ‘Very acute on class, aspiration, women and status’ SARAH PERRY, author of THE ESSEX SERPENT

A weak Pick. Slow start, nearly DNF-ed, but change of pace & a turn of plot mid way kept me going. Plot reminded me of defunct 90s US soap opera Sunset Beach - kinda unbelievable but ridiculously entertaining. Or perhaps entertainingly ridiculous. Della is the manipulative baddy, Kate likes making appalling choices, stolen babies, long lost sisters, all that good stuff. Saw final twist coming from start, ending felt like the bad guys won.

Just finished my last book so starting this one at 11.03p.m. Why oh why do I never finish a book at a reasonable time of day? If I could only finish at, say 4 in the afternoon, I'd be able to start the next one at a time when my eyelids don't feel like lead! But can I resist starting the new one, even if I should really be going to sleep?

No, I can't. Mount ToBeRead isn't going to climb itself!

an interesting and dark thriller. Its a slow burn story but slowly draws you into the plot. I enjoyed it but I found Kate and her actions hard to follow at times. Maybe I'm too cynical or have read too many stories like this but her actions just belied belief at times. I couldnt find a way to like or feel sorry for her, despite everything she went through. The writing is good and the character of Della is written really well. #Netgalley 3
