I‘m having to face that romance doesn‘t work for me like it used to. It‘s not a bad thing I guess, it‘s popular enough without my help. But I do love being a completist and can‘t give up altogether. Emily Henry writes emotions really so well. I did take a big break 30% of the way through and kind of forced myself back into it. Maybe my life is just so complicated I can‘t handle other peoples complicated emotions lol.

Very quick read. Recommend as a fun weekend read. I enjoy her writing. 4/5

To me the official kick off to summer reading season is when Emily Henry puts out a new book. That‘s why Funny Story was my favorite May read.

“It‘s a library, Daphne. If you can‘t be a human here, where can you?”

Although a classic chick lit, I loved the deadpan jokes peppered throughout the book.

This is my third Emily Henry book and I‘m seriously beginning to wonder why it has taken me so long to read her books? I loved this story, definitely more than Beach Read and possibly even more than Book Lovers. First book for #WinterGames2024 is in the bag and that‘s +60 points for Team #HolidayBookDragons

Daphne and her fiancé Peter have the perfect life. Until Peter suddenly breaks up with her for his best friend Petra, and Daphne realizes she didn't have a perfect life after all. In a town she moved to for Peter, where she doesn't know anyone other than Peter's friends, the only person she has to lean on is Petra's ex-boyfriend Miles. She re-evaluates everything she thinks about friendship, family, and who she really is.

Emily Henry does it again! After Daphne‘s fiancé calls off their wedding—because he's fallen for Miles's girlfriend—she ends up as roommates with Miles, and the two begin to heal together. This book gave me all the feels, and I related so much to Daphne. Her trauma and mine are different, but the effects feel so familiar. Likable, relatable characters and so much heart, Funny Story is a must-read if you like romance with depth. ? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I always enjoy Emily Henry's novels. This was exactly the cozy, predictable romance I needed.

Boring. The audio narrator‘s breathless and longing voice regardless of what she was reading was just too much to take. Disappointed after a promising start.

"Funny Story" by Emily Henry 2024
This book reminds me that novels are hard to write. This was sailing along on the crest of a good plot wave. Then, at about half way through, there is an unexpected fountain of self- disclosure by a major character who never seemed shut down in the first place. And another major character has somehow suddenly become an empath. Haven't finished reading it yet, but I think this is hard to recover from. We'll see.

One more thing about this book, I really appreciated how the platonic love story between Daphne and Ashley was just as important to the story and character development as the romantic love story, very refreshing and well done. So I guess the author is forgiven for all the hair-behind-ear tucking. 🤣

Is it just me or are sex scenes in novels awkward to listen to in audio books in a way they aren't awkward to read in print? Anyway this was a cute little rompy story that I mostly enjoyed. Tiresome and repetitive imagery at times (Miles must have tucked locks of Daphne's hair behind her ear a hundred times 🙄), but overall a good read for the end of summer.

This is such a strong showing from Emily Henry! I read it when it first came out in less than 48 hours, so it was nice to sit with it a little longer this time.
Reading through all Henry‘s books over the last few months with my friend was very fun, so I definitely recommend that, too.

This might be my new favorite Emily Henry novel! I absolutely loved the concept and the characters. Their chemistry was so well developed from practically strangers living together, to real friends, and then to more. Daphne's feeling of isolation after her breakup was so heartbreaking yet relatable. And Miles was just so sweet! The way they worked through their baggage together was satisfying. 5🌟

I really want the story behind this calendar I saw frames in the ladies‘ room…

It looks like a months‘s worth of excuses see to avoid one‘s significant other.

Starting again…my Libby checkout returned before I could finish this one and it FINALLY came in from the library!

This was just what I needed. And I‘m so glad I read it now since it‘s set over the summer. Daphne has just been left by her fiancé. She has moved into an apartment where the guy has just been left by his girlfriend

Daphne is counting down until she can leave this town where she knows no one. And what‘s she‘s counting down to is a read-a-thon that‘s she‘s organizing at the library where she works

I finished Enlightenment.

Surprisingly for me at least since everybody seems to love it, I DNFed The God of the Woods

I started Funny Story. I wanted to read it while it was still summer since it seemed like a summery book

While it was a super predictable book, it was cute and funny in all the right places. Perfect summer reading!

A few days after finishing, I need to look at the synopsis again to remember what this was about but it was classic Henry - always a good time, though not always memorable.

I wasn‘t sure what to expect from this one after but it‘s right up there with Book Lovers and Beach Read for me—I really enjoyed it. While I often talk about my complicated relationship with small town romances-I think Henry consistently nails it (even if not categorized as such). I was hesitant on the premise but it delivered for me. And finishing it while enjoying a non-alcoholic cocktail wasn‘t too shabby either. https://youtu.be/clzoqLXoeo8

I am very hold and cold on Emily Henry. I liked this one - Miles was a really good character and I can understand why he and Daphne fell for each other. My one complaint is I - as a librarian - can‘t imagine a children‘s librarian letting adults with no kids sit in on storytime - just me?

The Chicago Public Library system has just shy of 200 copies of Funny Story in circulation. After months, the copy I picked up has been so well loved for a same year release.

There may be a commentary on modern binding in here somewhere (for me there always is). But there‘s something magical about picking up a library copy and knowing you‘re about to go on a journey many have gone on before you. It‘s a reminder of the power of libraries.

Sunset and Funny Story.

A perfect beach read for a beach vacation, which is where I read it. This was a sweet romance. I enjoyed all the characters and was rooting for our 2 leads to get together.

A Cute Rom-Com with a bit of tasteful lovey smut.

The smut was less than 5% of the book, so it was acceptable. Starts out as a baffling couples swap and turns into a tale of self discovery and self love. A nice and easy summer read!

My new favorite Emily Henry. Loved both the hero and the heroine 💕

Except all those other adults I used to call, are also parents and many cases partners so half the time the plans fall through because someone‘s puking or fell off a trampoline or forgot they have to build a volcano for science class by tomorrow!‘”

I was traveling through Germany‘s neighbor countries the last two weeks with my Interrail ticket. My first stop was #Warsaw 🇵🇱 and #FunnyStory by #EmilyHenry the first novel! Warsaw is very modern and I really recommend the walking tour through the old Jewish Town & Ghetto.

Finally going on the Emily Henry train, so to speak. I've a new job that will, I think, require me to read more contemporary and recent things.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 the audiobook I highly recommend

Another home run for Henry… the perfect love story that reminds you that even when things go to crap, your happily ever after might just be around the corner!

Here I am again Reading an Emily Henry on a plane to India ! Overall I think it‘s a good one, a return to form - easy to read, saccharine in places but decently well rounded characters (who do not seem to quite have the maturity I‘d expect for their age but maybe a sign I am getting old!) and a slow burn love story that includes a healthy dose of self awareness and personal growth outside of the relationship.

Another win for Emily Henry! I loved the personal growth journeys and their chemistry. They both had really relatable (almost called me out a few times 👀) dilemmas, and it was nice to see them work through them! Wasn‘t perfect, but it was v good + fluffy

Listened to this one and loved the narration. Another cute relationship story from Henry.
