When Daphne‘s fiancé dumps her for his long-time bestie, Petra, she‘s stuck in his hometown with no friends, family, or a place to live. One crazy idea later, Daphne is now roommates with Miles, Petra‘s ex.

I was pretty meh about Henry‘s last book but I really enjoyed this one.

I don‘t read many romances (I overdosed on them as a teen and developed a severe allergy 😂) but Emily Henry‘s humor won me over. She just expressed my relationship to math over my entire academic career in one sentence: “I feel like I‘m back in high school calculus, random bits of equations and numbers drifting around me nonsensically: there‘s some kind of meaning there, but I do not have the right brain to interpret it.” She nailed it! 😂

Picked up in the library bookstore, my first EH! After Copper and I walked 3 miles, I needed a fun book with a bubble bath 🛀🏼

This isn‘t my 1st Henry book- but it might be my favorite. It‘s a rom com style book that‘s not cheesy, and impossible to put down. If you need a light hearted read where you will love (most of) the characters- read it!!

This is the 2nd Emily Henry book I‘ve read (the other being Book Lovers). I really loved this one! I loved how Daphne was a children‘s librarian & the set up of the novel. I really respected her as a character. I‘m new to the romance genre & this one was highly recommended & I‘m glad I read it! I would love 2 see this adapted to film or tv! I appreciated the connection Daphne had with her mom & the struggles she had with her dad. I could relate.

I liked this. I mean, I had a few quibbles, but, at this moment, it worked for me.

I've had this book from the library for 18 days but I couldn't make myself start it. Now I'm loving it and racing to finish before they pull it back! 🤞🏻😬🏁

Love Emily Henry books. This one was a little slow at the start but then picked up quick.

Daphne and Miles meet in a weird way when they both are dumped by their exes who happen to be best friends and have decided to marry each other.
I loved the writing, setting, and the characters, the most. It is such a sweet love story but still has so many small elements and topics going on beyond the main love story. A generic storyline but the writer has still made that so interesting (and heartwarming).

Loved it. I started reading Emily Henry with Book Lovers on audiobook and absolutely loved it. Wasn‘t as big a fan of Happy Place. Big fan of this one. Her writing is so clever and sassy and fun with lovable characters. Soul searching was great in here. Setting was enjoyable.

This has become my favourite Emily Henry novel. I say that with each one i read, but i don't see anything topping this one. I chose it this morning as my holiday read, since it's a stat holiday here, and I'm done. I just had to get to the end. I wish I could go back and read it again, for the first time. #34-2025

A bit risqué but great plot

It had it all and was a nice escape. I loved Miles character. Plus, it was an interesting set up. They‘re the ex‘s that got left and ended up roommates by circumstance only. I liked how Daphne had a false impression of who Miles was before she gave him a chance. The underline message was good. Be in relationships as yourself, not the person you need to be so you‘re chosen. You‘re worthy just as you are and those that can see that will choose you.

I was looking for a book to read on Libby and took a chance on this book. Little did I know I‘d like a rom-com book. The story was cute. I was laughing out loud while I read it.

Oh, this just might be my favorite of hers yet! I really enjoyed this fake dating romantic comedy! I laughed, I cried a little & couldn‘t tear my eyes off the pages— a total #OneSittingRead for me! The Michigan summer backdrop added to the fun & I just loved the premise of Daphne fake-dating her ex-fiancé‘s fiancée‘s ex-boyfriend! It does make for a funny story, indeed! It was my first purchase to celebrate last year‘s Indie Bookstore Day, too!

Few books make me laugh but I always appreciate good banter. I loved these characters and did giggle a couple times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was surprisingly on a year-end “best of 2024” list. Surprisingly because it was so fun and beach-read-y. I liked the characters (Daphne and Miles and Miles‘ sister, Julia). The ode to libraries and books and small towns in Michigan! Couldn‘t put it down.

Daphne‘s fiancé left her for his childhood best friend, Petra. Daphne‘s new roommate ends up being Petra‘s ex-boyfriend. They devise a plan to make it look like they‘re dating through social media. What happens when the feeling start to feel real?

My mum gave me a fun, non-Covid respiratory virus that involves an enormous amount of coughing. All I wanna do is snuggle dogs, eat crunchy foods, and read books.

I was in totally the wrong mood for the YA SF novel I tried earlier, but this romcom‘s really working for me. Gonna spend a goodly chunk of time with it this evening. Maybe gonna have more hashbrowns topped with cheese and spicy mayo, too, because who cares about nutritional value.

4✨ It took a while for this one to really grab me, but when it did, I didn‘t want to put it down. These roommates just got out of their long relationships for the same reason. Their ex‘s, who were just friends, decided they were going to get married instead! In the beginning it was just the roommates feeling sorry for themselves, but once the characters began to grow it made an interesting read. #HometownBC @Littlewolf1

Cozy, heartwarming read with humor. Liked how the relationships built over time and enjoyed the ending. The character growth worked really well. Appreciated how she developed her own life, and friendships, along with the romance. Added so much dimension to everything.

I‘m having to face that romance doesn‘t work for me like it used to. It‘s not a bad thing I guess, it‘s popular enough without my help. But I do love being a completist and can‘t give up altogether. Emily Henry writes emotions really so well. I did take a big break 30% of the way through and kind of forced myself back into it. Maybe my life is just so complicated I can‘t handle other peoples complicated emotions lol.

Very quick read. Recommend as a fun weekend read. I enjoy her writing. 4/5

To me the official kick off to summer reading season is when Emily Henry puts out a new book. That‘s why Funny Story was my favorite May read.

“It‘s a library, Daphne. If you can‘t be a human here, where can you?”

Although a classic chick lit, I loved the deadpan jokes peppered throughout the book.

This is my third Emily Henry book and I‘m seriously beginning to wonder why it has taken me so long to read her books? I loved this story, definitely more than Beach Read and possibly even more than Book Lovers. First book for #WinterGames2024 is in the bag and that‘s +60 points for Team #HolidayBookDragons

Daphne and her fiancé Peter have the perfect life. Until Peter suddenly breaks up with her for his best friend Petra, and Daphne realizes she didn't have a perfect life after all. In a town she moved to for Peter, where she doesn't know anyone other than Peter's friends, the only person she has to lean on is Petra's ex-boyfriend Miles. She re-evaluates everything she thinks about friendship, family, and who she really is.

Emily Henry does it again! After Daphne‘s fiancé calls off their wedding—because he's fallen for Miles's girlfriend—she ends up as roommates with Miles, and the two begin to heal together. This book gave me all the feels, and I related so much to Daphne. Her trauma and mine are different, but the effects feel so familiar. Likable, relatable characters and so much heart, Funny Story is a must-read if you like romance with depth. ? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I always enjoy Emily Henry's novels. This was exactly the cozy, predictable romance I needed.

Boring. The audio narrator‘s breathless and longing voice regardless of what she was reading was just too much to take. Disappointed after a promising start.

"Funny Story" by Emily Henry 2024
This book reminds me that novels are hard to write. This was sailing along on the crest of a good plot wave. Then, at about half way through, there is an unexpected fountain of self- disclosure by a major character who never seemed shut down in the first place. And another major character has somehow suddenly become an empath. Haven't finished reading it yet, but I think this is hard to recover from. We'll see.
