I am torn between the interesting storyline with the exploding house and the mail fraud subplot that was completely unnecessary. It seems like the authors want to make sure the reader understands that Nancy is able to solve every crime. I liked Bess and George being around for all the investigating becoming more important. Well, and from my point of view Ned tries to hard. 🙈
Trying to get back on track with my Nancy Drew reading. The last months of this school year have been pretty difficult for me, so I‘m behind three murder mysteries now. 🙈
I'd read this a few weeks ago and enjoyed the #NancyDrewBR discussion hosted by @Librarybelle, but I'm just now catching up with a bunch of reviews.
This was another good installment in the series. I especially liked that we got a proper introduction to Ned Nickerson.

One of the few Nancy Drews I don't own for myself, so this one came from the library. Another enjoyable outing with Nancy, George, and Bess - and, finally, Ned!! ❤ ❤ ❤
Thanks as always for hosting @Librarybelle !!

I actually finished this one for #NancyDrewBR before my trip but I‘m finally getting to the review now since not a ton of reading is happening this weekend-mostly sleeping.
Another enjoyable Nancy Drew book—in this one we get to meet Ned Nickerson & while Nancy solves a couple crimes, she isn‘t in as much danger & doesn‘t get knocked out so now the #NancyNogginKnockout or #NNK count is 3/7 books. 🤕 So I guess ⬇️
After the last #NancyDrewBR I was craving a childhood favorite- brown bread in a can and baked beans. In my meat eating days I would have added a chopped hot dog.
It really hit me that there‘s real danger in these stories. Nancy and her gal pals get way too close to a house explosion. These books also make me nostalgic for a time when roadside motels served meals and weren‘t scary dens of drug use and desperation.
On their way home from the country carnival, Nancy, Bess and George witness the explosion of a country mansion. Nancy‘s instinct is to check if she can save anyone, and as a man is running away she finds a diary.
At the country carnival, the friends had met a mother and her young daughter. The friends decide that they want to do something for the family.
Finally Ned is introduced and help our friends solve the mystery.

Enjoyed the discussion this week with the #NancyDrewBR for number 7 in the series.
We‘ll continue with one a month if you‘d like to join in the fun.
I enjoyed this #NancyDrewBR. While there wasn't as much action, Ned Nickerson was finally introduced. He seems to be able to keep up with Nancy easily. Once again, one of Carson Drew's cases tied in with Nancy's.

It‘s time for our #NancyDrewBR discussion, #LittenDetectives !
I posted 5 questions as spoilers. You can find them on my feed, the book‘s feed, or by searching #NancyDrewBR .
This was a fun one to read! Jump into the conversation whenever. I will post the official graphic for next month‘s book, Nancy‘s Mysterious Letter, tomorrow! Thanks for reading with me!
5. The diary in Swedish is the centerpiece of this book. I wanted to close the questions by sharing this collection of diaries and other manuscripts housed at the Library of Congress: https://blogs.loc.gov/manuscripts/category/diaries/
I also liked this from George Mason University about diaries and letters: https://historymatters.gmu.edu/mse/letters/whydo.html
Did you keep a diary? Do you still keep a diary? #NancyDrewBR
4. We finally meet Ned in this book! Though referenced briefly in a prior book - and that seems to me a continuity issue, given what we learn in this book - Nancy meets Ned at the scene of the fire. There is instant attraction!
I saw some comments from #LittenDetectives that they really enjoyed Bess in this one.
Thoughts to share on Bess, George, or Ned? #NancyDrewBR
3. Nancy and her friends experience a few adventures in this one - the most intense for me was the road rage episode!
Are there any “danger“ aspects that stick out for you?
Note for those keeping track of the bumps on the head: While we did not have a #NancyNogginKnockout , Nancy was slapped in the face!
2. In the 1962 edition, two chapters feature a mail theft subplot. Of course, Nancy to the rescue!
According to Wikipedia, some readers are less impressed with this addition to the story - they do not understand the reasoning for this addition, especially since it did not appear in the 1932 edition.
If you read the 1962 edition, what are your thoughts on this?
Link to recent case of mail theft in the US in the comments... #NancyDrewBR
1. While there are some differences between the 1932 edition and the 1962 (and later) edition, they are limited in scope, according to Wikipedia.
Which edition did you read? What are your overall thoughts of this, the 7th book in the series? #NancyDrewBR
Reading the #NancyDrewBR while drinking wine makes me feel kind of deviant. lol
Bess has quickly become my favorite character I'm this series. 😂 This installment was much more straightforward than others have been. And Ned finally showed up!
Nancy and her friends - and we finally have Ned in the picture! - are involved in a mystery surrounding a house explosion and a diary written in Swedish. Nancy also helps the postal service with a mail delivery issue. Fun read!
Don‘t forget #LittenDetectives that our #NancyDrewBR discussion of this book is on the 15th!
4✨ I enjoyed this one more than the previous books. We meet Ned, maybe again, but this I think might be his official introduction. The young sleuth stumbles on a mystery when there is a bad house fire. She finds what looks to be a diary written in Swedish. This could be the clue she needs to help out a sweet family trying to make a good life for their daughter, Honey. #NancyDrewBR @Librarybelle
#NancyDrewBR discussion next week. I‘ll keep my thoughts to myself until then. 🤐

Found another great place to read lately. I‘ve been so busy with grading I‘m trying to gain any place I can. E is too busy to really need me anyways. 🤷♀️🥰#NancyDrewBR @Librarybelle
Finished this month‘s #nancydrewbr during breakfast at Panera. I really enjoyed this one!
This was a good, quick read. I love how often Nancy meets a guy in each case and then you never hear about them again (or I guess they might, this is only book 7). Also, it‘s crazy how people keep accusing Nancy for doing wrong in front of the police expecting them to just listen. I‘m really enjoying reading these.
My favorite cover so far. I‘m going to try and find a print of it.
#NancyDrewBR #SeriesLove24
Another fun adventure for Nancy and her besties. This time there is a mysterious fire and a crooked business man that is stealing the ideas of others. Happy to finally have Ned in this one and looking forward to seeing more of him.
#NancyDrewBR
@Librarybelle
Another fun mystery with Nancy, her friends, George and Bess, and finally Ned Nickerson! I had forgotten that Ned could be quite flirtatious and Nancy quite demure. Add to that a mansion gone up in flames, a missing owner, and a poor family in need, and you've got quite a puzzle for Nancy to solve! Nancy doesn't hit her head in this one, but she does get slapped in the face. 😱 I look forward to the discussion on 5/15.
I know I've been told "don't knock it till you try it" but I think I'd rather not try it.
#Naturalitsy #HyggeHourReadathon
My #HyggeHour is being spent with Nancy for #NancyDrewBR & with tea, a face mask & a few Girl Scout cookies
My mood is mellow & a bit bummed that tomorrow is Monday & it will be another crazy week while getting ready for a work trip next Sunday. Happy to have this #Hygge transition time.🙏🏼
Just a tiny #LibraryBookHaul today. I stopped in to drop off books & pick up the tagged book for #NancyDrewBR & stopped from checking anything else out as I have too much to read already. I did grab Our Missing Hearts which is on my TBR for $1 at the library book store & 2 Free Comic Book Day bookmarks.
The book🐔🐔say I broke even, +1 point for not checking out extra books this week & -1 point for buying another to add to the giant TBR stacks!
I honestly think this may be my favorite to date. It definitely made for a fun couple of hours reading on a rainy Saturday. No #NNK, but plenty of snooping, meddling, and a proper introduction to Ned. ❤️
#nancydrewbr
I‘m going to have to start counting the number of times Nancy is accused of snooping or meddling. It‘s cracking me up. #ScoobyDooOrNamcyDrew?
#nancydrewbr
Nancy will always be a pick for me. My only disappointment was that Nancy didn‘t get conked on the head, trapped or bound and gagged. 😆
#NancyDrewBR
Oh man what a place to have to stop when lunch is over. My students tell me I can keep reading. So sweet… but I know they just want an excuse to not work today. Teenagers. 😅🤣 #NancyDrewBR @Librarybelle
Did we finally meet Ned?! #NancyDrewBR @Librarybelle 🤩🤩🤩
#LittenDetectives : we‘re two weeks away from our next #NancyDrewBR discussion! Dare I say Nancy will find a clue in the diary???
Discussion questions posted on May 15th!
There‘s a spot in my classroom where I can hide and no one can see me from the door and windows. One of my planning periods this year is during lunch. I‘m hiding, eating and reading. Getting a head start on the #NancyDrewBR.
Repost for @Librarybelle
Our next #NancyDrewBR is The Clue in the Diary. We‘ll discuss it on May 15th.

Thanks for a great discussion yesterday! Feel free to keep adding to the discussion.
Our next #NancyDrewBR is The Clue in the Diary. We‘ll discuss on May 15th.
If you would like to be added or removed from the tag list, just let me know!
# 7 - the introduction of Ned. One of the better mysteries, and not one involving supposed ghosts or curses. It has more of a feel of the Secret of the Old Clock rather than the scooby do-ish feel of the last few.
“Oh, Hannah, that‘s wonderful!” Nancy exclaimed. “But don‘t tell me you can read Swedish?”
“I wish I could. The person to translate the diary is our old Swedish bakery #friend, Mr. Peterson. He has moved his shop to the other side of town.” #QuotsyFeb19 #NancyDrew
Always a fun read with my daughter. Wr blazed through this in four days!

Oh, no! Another meddling kid! As we learned from Scooby-Doo, anyone who says this clearly has something to hide.
