Street life in the slums of Accra is realistically portrayed in this socially-commited, subtle novel about four educated women who are inspired by the plight of a 14-year old girl, Fofo. As the main characters convert their library center into a practical street initiative, the novel invokes the squalor, health risks, and vicious cycles of poverty and violence that drive children to the streets and women to prostitution; and, from which, ultimately, no one in the society is free.

Mehso-so

The main threat of the story is 14 years old girl Fofo. She is a street child, living in the slum with the name Sodom and Gomorrah. The novel is social commentary about abandoned children, poverty, prostitution, discrimination against women … sad and important story, but simplicity of the language, narration techniques and some satirical/comical situations almost override the complexity of the story. #Ghana #ReadAroundTheWorld

Simona Thank you @rockpools for check in on me, but I‘m more than perfect! I have vacation, I was on Croatian coast for more than two weeks without internet, and I‘m going to work next Friday. I came home yesterday, and yes, I‘m starting today …. which is mentioned in all prediction Booker longlists. You know me well 😘 3y
rockpools @Simona Oh how wonderful. I think Croatia is the most beautiful place I‘ve ever been (obviously I‘ve never been to Slovenia 😉)- sounds fab. Enjoy your Bookers! 3y
Simona @rockpools Than you should visit Slovenia too, although, our coast can‘t be compared with the Croatian … So, no change of mind about Booker longlist? This year timeline is very friendly for the readers - month and the half … 3y
rockpools @Simona One day🌸! And, ha! No! Even with SUCH a friendly timeline 🤔. Staying firm on this one. I *really* want to finish Reading Asia this year, so I‘m abandoning (almost) anything else! 3y
