An Invincible Summer
An Invincible Summer | Mariah Stewart
2 posts | 4 read
An endearing novel of friendship, forgiveness, and second chances by New York Times bestselling author Mariah Stewart. It was a lifetime ago that recently widowed Maggie Flynn was in Wyndham Beach. Now, on the occasion of her fortieth high school reunion, she returns to her hometown on the Massachusetts coast, picking up right where she left off with dear friends Lydia and Emma. But seeing Brett Crawford again stirs other emotions. Once, they were the town's golden couple destined for one another. He shared Maggie's dreams--and eventually, a shattering secret that drove them apart. Buying her old family home and resettling in Wyndham Beach means a chance to start over for Maggie and her two daughters, but it also means facing her rekindled feelings for her first love and finally confronting--and embracing--the past in ways she never thought possible. Maggie won't be alone. With her family and friends around her, she can weather this stormy turning point in her life and open her heart to the future. As for that dream shared and lost years ago? If Maggie can forgive herself, it still might come true.

An excellent read. I thought it was going to be a fluffy summer read but it pulls you deeply into the character‘s lives and holds you. Maggie and her daughters have been/are in some tough spots, but they are warrior women who know how to move on.

FeatherV Oh yeah I should have warned you, they‘re amazing but you may cry 2mo
Mshookquilts @FeatherV I found myself holding my breath through some of the more intense parts. I‘ll move on the the next 2 later. I‘d put a few others ahead of them in my reading schedule. 2mo

This one was just an OK for me. The writing was fine, no major blunders, but I came away unsatisfied. It‘s the story of a woman (Maggie) re-inventing herself in her late 50s as a new widow. There are secrets, past loves, and a return to her hometown. Her daughters (29 and 32) also had their issues/viewpoints, but they seemed very immature for their ages which annoyed me. I did like Maggie‘s lifelong friends, but didn‘t feel much connection to 🔻

robinb Maggie unfortunately. In the end, I felt like this plot and even these characters had been done before. 3.5/5⭐️ This was my December #bookspin . @TheAromaofBooks (edited) 3y
