I had an amazing time attending the annual Kentucky Book Festival this weekend. It is hands down my favorite day of the year! It was an exciting opportunity to meet writers, purchase books, and attend author programs for an entire day!! I wrote about my experience on my blog. You can check it out at https://abookandadog.com

I was anticipating this 2022 book since last December when I spent a weekend researching books coming out this year. It‘s compared to Me Before You which had me suffering all sorts of emotions back nearly 10 years ago. I liked this one but felt it lacked a quirky character giving the reader a moment of respite from the serious content. Still a pick and makes me think about the issues an end of life doula could face.

I‘ve read and enjoyed a few of Strawser‘s earlier novels, so I was thrilled when the publisher reached out with an early copy of this one! A death doula, Nova recently returned to Cincinnati and just when she starts feeling like she‘s found her calling, a new client starts changing her world. Mason is a musician and when he reaches out for help, these two closed off people start bringing more out. A bit slow-moving & a bit reminiscent of Picoult…

Such an interesting concept: an end-of-life doula who helps terminally ill patients transition meets Mason, a famous singer/songwriter who is having trouble coping. Plot aside, it‘s about the human condition, connections we make, and happiness that we must find in a crazy world! Thanks to #NetGalley and St. Martin‘s Press for this ARC!
