3 posts | 2 read
AD 63 Leonidas’s former trainer, Aemil, asks him to look into the disappearances of gladiators from his ludus. Leonidas and Cassia investigate, and soon uncover gruesome murders involving some of the wealthiest citizens of Rome. Leonidas pits his skills against an unknown killer who hunts gladiators from the back lanes of the Subura to prestigious villas atop Rome’s hills. He and Cassia must succeed in uncovering the murderer’s identity before Nero grows impatient and makes Leonidas pay for the chaos the killer has rained down upon his city.

Leonidas the former gladiator is eking out an existence as a bodyguard and occasional investigator. When his former trainer comes to him with news that some of his gladiators have gone missing, he takes on the case. And then the first body appears, and then the second. When Nero himself takes an interest, Leonidas has no choice but to find the murderer, or Nero will do it for him. Terrific mystery, with wonderful characters. #mystery #ancientrome

Somebody is killing and dismembering off-duty gladiators. Can Leonidas find out who before he becomes the next victim or Nero has him executed?

I like Leonidas and Cassia and their developing relationship and this was an intriguing plot as well. Looking forward to the next installment.

Read "A Gladiator's Tale", which is the latest in the series, though I assume there are more to come.

Read the third and last novella in "Past Crimes" and then " The Thursday Murder Club".

That's the plan but I got boosted yesterday and am feeling a bit rough.
