She Weeps Each Time You're Born: A Novel | 
pickMostly pretty good with some poetic writing, but it jumps around in time which is just a little confusing. Does make you appreciate the suffering of the Vietnamese in the War and before and after. Still worthwhile but not for teens, kind of an R rating if it was a movie. I liked the boat people section the best.

pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I picked this up at an indie because I loved Barry‘s recent book We Ride Upon Sticks. This was entirely different - set in Vietnam over a few decades, starting with the 1970s. The writing is beautiful and had touches of magical realism. Between my lack of knowledge about Vietnam and the way parts were written, I did feel at times I didn‘t have enough context. Though I still liked We Ride Upon Sticks more, I felt this was worth the read.
