pickThis was an unexpectedly good read. I can't believe it has under 400 ratings (on GR) - it's a cracking book that's flying way under the radar. Now I'll admit that most of the reveals are not a surprise as you do pretty much know what's coming, but it's done so well. I read it in a couple of hours as it kept me absolutely glued to my Kindle waiting for the payoff when the inevitable happens & all hell breaks loose. (Continued)
pickThis story is fantastic, it has everything you would want in a mystery/suspense/thriller and then some. The world that the author has created here is a future, much like ours, just a little more advanced tech-wise. And while that is an integral part of the story, it isn‘t necessarily the main focus. Although it does lend itself to making this a totally unique experience…making it different from other domestic suspense or psychological thrillers.
pickThe emotional abuse was quite well-portrayed. I felt it in my core as Rowena muddled through her upsetting experiences. And the fact that people preyed upon her mental health issues and invalidated her regularly - well, that was familiar, too. It was equally uncomfortable and, like the abuse, authentically conveyed. I didn‘t like how it made me feel, but I loved that it succeeded in making me feel that way.
