Well, this one started off special. So, it deserved a little more creativity when introduced to others …

I didn‘t know what to expect here — based on the Goodreads reviews. While I think the author managed to tell an entertaining story in dark comedy format while juggling a ton of important themes… the incredibly detailed and ( in my opinion - GROSS) references to body functions and activities that I don‘t think I‘ve heard of any BFFs actually engaging in makes me give a caution to other readers. Try Bad Dolls instead if you don‘t like yuck.

The humanity and intentionality in this book is exceptional. Oftentimes, we‘re subjected to additions to the “true crime” genre that seem to miss that the tragedy in these stories: loss of human life. That unequivocally remains in the forefront here. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

Unfortunately, much of the history here is forever lost. There isn‘t enough actual content to warrant a book that‘s marketed to be about this family. Arguably, this book is more about the variety of factors and facts about American life in wildest of wests and how it was able to cultivate this level of crazy. It‘s rather ironic when you think about how much of America is now defined by its robust criminal justice system. 🧐

I really enjoyed this book because of what is being said. I could care less about the story itself. It‘s very Oscar Wildeish but with feminism, racial, and religious inclusion.

“So it‘s easy to lie. I tell the truth in Chinese, I make up stories in English. I don‘t take it that seriously. When I‘m finally enrolled in first grade, I tell classmates that I live in a house with an elevator, with deer in the back yard. It is the language in which I have nothing to lose, even if they don‘t believe a thing I say.”

This is a reminder: “ We will get advice, sometimes profound, but not know what to do with it at the time. That‘s okay. Tuck it away and take it out when the time is right and you are ready.”

This poignant quote sums up my entire experience reading this amazing book.

I was incredibly disappointed with this book. It‘s unfortunate because I loved the author‘s take on Frankenstein. The delivery of this book‘s plot was utterly atrocious. Any author who purposely gives two characters the exact same name and constantly refers to one as “ the other Jane Doe” really needs to check themself before they wreck themself. Sad. So. Very. Sad.

For a better version of this story, see Chopping Spree.
