Hamed studied law in #Mauritania but when he spoke out against the government, he lost his law license. So he became a journalist but was soon blacklisted for his anti-government stance. So to avoid jail, he used his life savings to fly to NYC and became a refugee amongst the African diaspora in America. Told in present tense, third person it was an awkward read and felt almost too personal. But I learned an enormous amount about Mauritania and ⬇️
