A Courage Undimmed
A Courage Undimmed: A WW2 Historical Mystery Perfect for Book Clubs | Stephanie Graves
3 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
In the same vein as Rhys Bowens and Susan Elia MacNeals engrossing mysteries, Stephanie Graves returns with the latest book in her captivating historical mystery series set in England during World War II, featuring the young and spirited veterinarian student Olive Bright. Young pigeoneer Olive Bright has been conscripted, with her racing birds, to aid the fight against the Nazis. Its not the daring role she'd envisioned for herself, but her quiet little English village is not nearly as sheltered as she imagined . . . Returning to Pipley following her FANY (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry) training, Olive is eager to step up her involvement in the war effort. Her pigeons are being conscripted to aid the Belgian resistance, and its up to Olive to choose the best birds for the mission. To protect the secrecy of their work, she must also continue the ruse of being romantically involved with her superior, Captain Jameson Aldridge, a task made more challenging by the fact that she really does have feelings for the gruff Irish intelligence officer. But perhaps the greatest challenge of all comes when an instructor at Station XVII, the top-secret training school housed at Brickendonbury Manor, is found dead in Balls Wood by a troop of Girl Guides. The police quickly rule Lieutenant Jeremy Becketts death an accident, but based on clues she finds at the scene, Olive begins to suspect he might have been a spy. Involving the reluctant Jamie, she is determined to solve the murder and possibly stop a threat to their intelligence efforts which could put the Belgiansnot to mention her pigeonsin grave danger. Perfect for lovers of wartime novels that combine history, mystery, and romance. Kirkus Reviews Gravess focus on a fascinating bit of WWII history makes this stand out among lighter wartime mysteries. Publishers Weekly

I read 12 books in #November, and this was my favorite.

This is third in the Olive Bright historical mystery series. Set during WWII, it follows the adventures of a young woman who offers her services as a pigeoneer to aid the war effort and solves mysteries on the side. 😆

This is 3rd in the historical mystery series, and I‘m loving this series! It‘s set in an English village during WW2 and centers around Olive Bright, a pigeoneer who supplies her fine-feathered friends for a nearby agent-training facility for communication missions in enemy territory. She is a fiesty, nosy, intelligent young FANY who (in this storyline) is seriously considering trying to become an agent. In the meantime she is investigating the 🔻

robinb murder of a psychic medium in her village who was poisoned, not once but twice, during a séance. She‘s also considering her relationship with her undercover boyfriend Captain Jamie Aldridge (her liaison for her secret involvement in the war effort). This story is not only fun and entertaining (Olive is a wonderful heroine) with well-fleshed out characters ? (edited) 1y
robinb (including a colorful cast of villagers), it‘s also loaded with actual historical details of the time that really resonated with me. Recommended. 4.5/5⭐️ Anyone wishing to try this series, here‘s the first one. 1y

The third book in the Olive Bright series.. Weaves together life on the home-front with actual historic events, people, little-known facts from WWII, murder and romance. An entertaining and engaging read. I‘ll definitely be going back to read the others in the series. #KensingtonBooks #StephanieGraves

robinb Ohhh, I love this series! I‘ve read the others and have this arc to get to. 2y
MrsK @robinb I need to go back and read the first two! I enjoyed this but would have benefited from some backstory 🥰 2y
