A Lady's Past | A.S. Fenichel
post image
Mehso-so

A story about a young English woman who is kidnapped (along with her parents) by French spies and tortured for 2 years in an effort to force her scientist father to build weapons for Napoleon. She escapes and makes her way to England, only to be pursued there by her vicious kidnappers. She is taken in by a recent French emigre and his friends and learns to hope and trust again. This was fine, but I‘ve read better. As an analogy, this would be ⬇️

robinb more of a “B” movie. 3/5⭐️ #NetGalley #KensingtonBooks 1w

The setting for this series in this 4th installment moves from Manhattan to a small coastal sea island (fictitious Bradford Island) in Georgia, 1889. Prudence & Geoffrey have travelled there for her best friend‘s wedding when tragedy strikes (and a murderer continues to strike). This story explores the history of the two landowners, the Bennetts & the Dicksons and how that history has shaped the wedding couple‘s lives. Prudence gets a lesson in ⬇️

robinb post-war southern attitudes about slavery as she & Geoffrey struggle to untangle how past sins have affected the present. It‘s a fairly tangled plot, and was actually more emotional for me than her previous books. We also begin to get a glimpse into Geoffrey‘s conflict over his family‘s southern background as well. I simply love this series. 4/5⭐️ Out 11/26. #KensingtonBooks #NetGalley 1mo

The latest edition (#3) in the Verity Kent mystery series set in 1919 England in which we find Verity investigating two seemingly non related murders, one of which a friend is implicated in. The plot turns out to be more complex than first thought (surprise!), and we are introduced to a fiendish villain who appears above the law and will no doubt make future appearances. Some familiar faces are back, and I especially enjoyed getting to know 🔽

robinb Sidney (Verity‘s husband) much better and watch as they continue to strive to heal themselves while rebuilding their marriage. Another great addition to the series! 4/5⭐️ #KensingtonBooks #NetGalley (edited) 1mo

AlaMich When I saw that cover, the first thing I thought was Maisie Dobbs. Same sort of artwork. 1mo
robinb @AlaMich Yes! There seem to be quite a few historical mystery series that are using similar art themes. I love the covers! 1mo

Another wonderful addition to one of my favorite series. This one finds Wrexford and Charlotte racing against time to save the life of the accused killer, and this one is very personal for Charlotte. While some of the subject matter surrounding the murders is gruesome, it is also interesting and well-researched by the author. 🔽🔽

robinb I also liked this one for two other reasons: Wrexford and Charlotte grow ever closer to admitting their feelings for one another and Charlotte struggles to make a very important, life-changing decision that involves stepping out of her comfort zone. I‘m excited (and a little apprehensive) to see what the ramifications of her decision will be in the next installment. 🔽🔽 (edited) 2mo
robinb Well-written, wonderfully drawn characters (both main and secondary) and inventive and intriguing plot lines keep me coming back for more. 4/5⭐️

Third in a trilogy of which I‘ve only read the second one so far, and this is one of the best historical romances I‘ve read in quite awhile! This one is different from the usual storylines which is refreshing. I loved both mains, and they seemed destined in many ways to find each other. The heroine was particularly a favorite as she was a strong young woman who had assisted her father (doctor) growing up and wished to continue aiding others ⬇️

robinb while trying to regain her family‘s lost title/lands in Scotland. She was definitely one to cheer for! And Eric‘s evolution was a pleasure to read. Highly recommend! 5/5⭐️ #NetGalley #KensingtonBooks (edited) 8mo

I‘ve found a new female sleuth to enjoy with this book! Set in Newport in 1898, Emma Cross is a reporter who wants to be taken seriously and given the hard news stories in the newspaper business. Here she solves three murders, exposes criminal negligence and takes down some members of a nasty gang. I ❤️ this character! Will definitely go back and read her previous 5 adventures to get the full picture! 4/5⭐️
Thanks to #NetGalley & #KensingtonBooks!

The tagged book is first in series, and I liked it...this second venture (not in database yet) I loved! ❤️ Why? Two reasons I‘ll mention...first, it‘s not fluff, not just a love story. The characters have real issues to face with their pasts, their families, their friends. Second, the first book is the author‘s DEBUT novel...this is only her second, but she writes like a seasoned professional...her words flow effortlessly. Can‘t wait for no. 3!

robinb #romantsy #NetGalley #KensingtonBooks @Jas16 We are in agreement...even better than the first one! 👍😊❤️ 2y

Up next, this ARC from #NetGalley and #KensingtonBooks that is described as a “provocative and profoundly moving debut, set in the tragic intersection between white and Native American culture, a young girl learns about friendship, betrayal, and the sacrifices made in the name of belonging.” I‘m in! 👍😊 #CoverLove ❤️
