A friend donated several books by this author to my class library. They‘re fairly short middle grade reads that I hope will interest some of my more reluctant rural readers. The author starts with a lot of relatable small town details. The main character manages to see and is hoping to shoot the local legend of a turkey. Yet, in the end, it‘s much more a story of family and forgiveness, even quoting a single Bible verse, than a hunting story.

As an adult, I was not impressed with the writing, but I found it enjoyable enough and more relevant to many of my students‘ lives than anything else I‘ve read recently. It also includes a little #Nebraska history.
Also, this is my new beagle puppy, Luthien!
