Twice in a Lifetime: A Novel | Melissa Baron
6 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
The Time Traveler's Wife meets Oona Out of Order in this imaginative and moving debut novel of a love more powerful than time. Isla has fled the city for small-town Missouri in the wake of a painful and exhausting year. With her chronic anxiety at a fever pitch, the last thing she expects is to meet a genuine romantic prospect. And she doesnt. But she does get a text from a man who seems to think hes her husband. Obviously, a wrong numberexcept when she points this out, the mystery texter sends back a picture. Of themon their wedding day. Isla cautiously starts up a texting relationship with her maybe-hoax, maybe-husband Ewan, who claims to be reaching out from a few years into the future. Ewan knows Isla incredibly well, and seems to love her exactly as she is, which she can hardly fathom. But hes also grieving, because in the future, he and Isla are no longer together. Ewan is texting back through time to save her from a fate he is unwilling to shareand all she can do to prevent that fate is to learn to be happy, now, in the body she has, with the mind she has. The only trouble is the steps she takes in that direction might be steps away from a future with Ewan. Melissa Barons time-crossed romance features a quintessentially endearing and brave protagonist, and an engrossing plot that will keep you turning pages until its breathtaking finish.

Not a traditional romance or rom-com as the focus was on life. Isla battles depression and social anxiety and I really related to her. She is somehow able to communicate with her near future husband after a tragedy. As Isla learns to manage mental illness, she also must devise a plan to recreate her life with Ewan, who doesn‘t know her yet. Grief and second chances with a sprinkle of magical realism. 4⭐️ #Aardvark #pop23 song lyric title

Working my way through this #Aardvark pick little by little. I identify so much with the MC‘s anxiety and bouts of depression and self doubt. I also don‘t typically do romances but this one really tugs at my heartstrings and I wish I had joined in time to get it in my box. I love a second chance romance plus a literal second chance at life theme! It‘s just a lot to take in at times lol. I‘m really hoping for a happy ending! #audio

I really enjoyed this book. I think it accurately depicts a person struggling with anxiety, depression, and doubt. Through the main protagonist, I was able to experience the manifestation of thought to behavior, and how they influence each other. Love for oneself is the most important love. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Trying to whittle down my current Aardvark TBR before my next box comes. Wish me luck! 📚

I‘m always in for a story where with one bit of magical realism when we can change our past with one small gesture to drastically change our future. This was sad, sweet, but ultimately full of hope.
