Y'all. I did not technically (or even not technically) need three more hardcovers, but it was really fun to open my first #AardvarkBookClub box today! And I comfort myself by telling myself that, if I read very carefully and don't use a slice of bacon as a bookmark (which I totally don't need to do because I have the #aardvark bookmarks), I can always gift these later.

How to Turn Into a Bird | Mara Jos Ferrada

Pickpick

Ferrada, who also writes children‘s books, had a great grasp on the child narrator of this novel but also brought in some more adult themes. I‘m really pleased that #aardvark chose some literature in translation in January!

Miguel‘s uncle Ramón has never fit in. He buries his issues in alcohol. When he gets a job taking care of the billboard above his town, he makes a nest in it and moves there. But his problems from the housing complex follow.

vlwelser You have quite a collection going. 💛 5d
Megabooks @vlwelser I‘m really liking aardvark! 👍🏻💜 5d

Cinfhen Actually sounds entertaining - and love your Aardvark stack 😍 5d
Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks! It was short but made an impact. I‘m reading more South American literature in translation, and I‘m really starting to get a sense for the region, which is great! 5d
vlwelser 💯 excited already to see the Feb picks. 5d
BarbaraBB @Megabooks That is great, it really is such a special I‘ll region 5d
Librarybelle Hooray! 5d
sarahbarnes Glad to see you liked this one! 4d
Megabooks @vlwelser me too!! 4d
Megabooks @BarbaraBB yes! I‘m all about the armchair travel this year. I‘m hoping to get in some actual travelogues as the year progresses. 4d
Megabooks @sarahbarnes I did! 👍🏻 4d
Megabooks @Librarybelle 😁😁👍🏻 4d
Christine So glad you enjoyed this one! I really did, too. I‘m rarely tempted by book subscriptions, but this Aardvark sure has some good titles… 3d
Megabooks @Christine they really have chosen some great ones. I also LOVED this other Tin House title. 3d
Christine I really liked Singer Distance, too! Well done, Aardvark. 3d

Book haul! I took advantage of a B&N gift card for the bottom three, and the top two are my #aardvark titles that just arrived. 🥳

Sophronisba I am really excited about The New Life, it sounds fantastic. 5d

I have to admit I wasn‘t super excited about this #aardvark pick but folks I was WRONG. I really enjoyed this debut thriller and would definitely like another book with Rita solving the crime.

So this is what I‘m thinking for print books for the rest of the month. 🤔🤔 I‘ve almost finished My Volcano, but I really don‘t know where I should head tomorrow…

Also under consideration, but not pictured, are Factory Girls from #aardvark and Seven Moons from the #tob shortlist. Thoughts??

vivastory Scattered!! 😃 1w
Megabooks @vivastory very excited for that one. I‘ve been reading a lot of eco dystopian/horror lately. 😬😬 not the best on a 61 degree day in January. 1w
vivastory Haha, yeah just a couple of weeks ago around Xmas I had to literally let all of the faucets drip so they wouldn't freeze for nearly a week & it was 50 degrees today. *sigh* 1w

Cinfhen EVENTIDE!!!! What are your thoughts on this one??? It‘s on my #WeeklyForecast too but not sure I‘ll get to it this week 🤦🏼‍♀️ 1w
BarbaraBB I am reading My Volcano too. Halfway through and I‘ve been enjoying it but I now have a bit enough of it. 1w
BarbaraBB I‘d read Scattered ❤️ 1w
squirrelbrain The only one I‘ve read is Haven, which I loved. Enjoy, whichever order you read them in! 1w
ImperfectCJ I found An Uninterrupted View of the Sky to be excellent but bleak/heavy. Definitely a book to read with something lighter as a chaser. 1w
vlwelser Another vote for Scattered! But, also curious about Haven. I haven't read that one yet. 1w
sarahbarnes I was just reading about How to Turn into a Bird. It sounds intriguing! 1w
Megabooks @vivastory @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @ImperfectCJ @vlwelser @sarahbarnes I ended up starting both how to turn into a bird and scattered all over the earth. I‘m enjoying both. Scattered has a bit more plot, so it has the edge atm! We‘re having spring storms in winter and the internet is out, so I‘m going to try to get some reading in. 🤞🏻 we don‘t lose power. It feels like April today!!! 1w

I loved this. Don't be fooled by the cheesy cover. 1990s Northern Ireland is the setting. 3 girls are waiting for their end of school test results and end up working in a shirt factory. It's very funny and it definitely does a great job of setting the scene. Definitely recommend.

My #aardvark book was delivered today. For a second I thought it didn't have the Aardvark logo on the cover, but then spotted it in the window.

I'm digging the cover of this month's #aardvarkbookclub choice. I switched from #botm to #aardvark for a few months. Definitely something for which I #blameitonlitsy 🤣🤣

#Aardvark box is here! 💜

TheBookHippie Ooooooo. I‘ve been checking them out! 2w
vlwelser @TheBookHippie I am very happy with them so far. I wanted something that wasn't that big one that I'm not naming because they act like bigots occasionally. But also not super expensive and you pick the books (because ARCs). How's that for a sales pitch? Plus excellent name. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I stopped that one and then was gifted a year… that I‘m still trying to use 😵‍💫 this looks good though. Love the name. 2w
