I Will Survive: A Children's Picture Book | Dino Fekaris, Frederick J. Perren

This song has always been a favorite of mine and so I‘m sharing that the song has become a Vox book 😂 If you‘re not familiar, Vox books are picture books that read (or in this case sing) along with the reader. Cheers to the next generation of strong, independent women! #Pop23 ~a book with a song lyric as it‘s title

TheBookgeekFrau This song is so timeless!! I had the privilege of seeing Ms. Gaynor preform it live when I was 8 or 9, I'll never forget it 🤩 16h
Cortg @TheBookgeekFrau Lucky you! 15h

I adored all the characters in this story; each of their eccentric personalities will stay with me a while. I loved how the story unfolded, how Elsa learns about and befriends her neighbors and the connections the neighbors have to one another. Elsa‘s emotions are raw and real in dealing with so much. I also really enjoyed the fairytale aspect of the story. And the ending is the typical feel good Backman ❤️ #pop23 ~a book you bought second hand

TheBookgeekFrau I Loved this book so much; the story, the writing, the weaving of the fairytales {sighhh} So Good 19h
rwmg In case you didn't know, there is a sequel 13h
Cortg @rwmg Yep! It‘s on my TBR! Thanks ☺️ 12h

Love After Love: A Novel | Ingrid Persaud

Pickpick

This was a highly affecting book about all kinds of love.

Set in Trinidad, we meet Betty, Solo, and Mr Chetan, and follow their little family for many years. They felt like real people to me, and their stories moved me much more than I expected. It snuck up on me as I gradually got drawn into their lives.

Content warning for domestic violence, self harm, and extreme homophobia.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cinfhen I read this book a few years ago and it made my year end favorite list!!!! Audio was PRICELESS!! Happy to see it‘s still finding new readers!! 1d
RaeLovesToRead @Cinfhen so sweet, but so very sad too 😢 23h

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I have this and still haven't gotten around to it yet. Story of my life. 21h
RaeLovesToRead @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm trying to read a book from every country. This worked well for Trinidad & Tobago. It's sweet, but has some upsetting content, and may make you cry. 21h
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I, too, want to read a book from every country so this will help check a box. I don't have any trigger warnings or anything, so feeling feelings might be a good thing once in a while. 20h
RaeLovesToRead @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick My only set in stone content warning is THE CAT DOESN'T MAKE IT lol. (As far as I remember there weren't any cats in this book.. 😅) Although, a rage warning should maybe be mentioned for male authors describing their female characters by their bosoms, haha. (Murakami gets a pass because I love him 🤣) 20h
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I see those as good discussing points for the review! 🤣 I must say, an animal dying will 100% make me cry, but for the right story, I'm still going to plug away. 19h

Tom Lake: A Novel | Ann Patchett

Pickpick

A simple storytelling story of a mom who tells her grown daughters of the summer she spent at Tom Lake in a theater production and her relationship with a special someone who became a famous actor. The story also ties in with her chosen life on a farm. Extra points for Meryl Streep‘s narration. #Pop23 ~a book that comes out in the second half of 2023

This was recommended to me and thrillers aren‘t my favorite genre. This one took a hot minute to get into but eventually I looked forward listening. I thought the twists were clever, but too far fetched or too many for one story?! Overall it was an okay read. #Pop23 ~a book about a holiday that‘s not Christmas (I‘m going out on a limb, using the British definition of holiday)

SamAnne I felt the same. 2w
squirrelbrain Nothing wrong with our definition of holiday! 🤣 I did the same thing for this prompt, anyway….. 2w

#titlesandtunes #theworldismyoyster @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB

This was #moremehthanyeah! Mainly focuses on women walkers/writers in the UK (in fact only 2 chapters are based abroad), and hasn't really encouraged me to seek out some of their work. I might look up Anais Nin and Linda Cracknell.

AllDebooks I really like the sound of this but disappointing that it's not global. Maybe she'll do a sequel 3w
jenniferw88 @AllDebooks The problem is that there's LOTS of books about male authors/walkers throughout history, but hardly any on women, because the information just isn't available/there. Misogyny (I think? - brain isn't in gear at the moment!) - at work again 😡 3w
Cinfhen Such a great idea for #TitlesAndTunes too bad it wasn‘t a winner 😕 3w

Cortg I love walking, hiking & backpacking. I may pick this one up out of curiosity. 😊 3w
BarbaraBB Anais Nin is an interesting person but I am not sure what‘s she‘s got to do with walking? I thought she was always in the salons in Paris 😂 3w
jenniferw88 @BarbaraBB she does a lot of walking, either alone or with a lover, in Paris (& to a lesser extent, New York) to help her with the writing. 3w
BarbaraBB Ah she walks in Paris, that makes sense. I thought in England! 3w

Read for my book club….
#pop23 #setinhollywood

Very interesting story, well written, but I found it quite repetitive. Which is understandable considering the story being told, but just not for me. The repeating pattern of Chysta‘s mum‘s new relationship, moneymaking scheme, crash and burn…. Started to feel like I was stuck in a revolving door, which I‘m sure is how Chrysta felt. But just stopped me loving what I was reading. 🤷‍♀️

squirrelbrain I can imagine how this could be rather repetitive… but at least it ticked off a prompt! 3w
