Your Mind is a Terrible Thing
Your Mind is a Terrible Thing | Hailey Piper
2 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
Communications specialist Alto's shift aboard the starship M.G. Yellowjacket turns hellish after waking from a tryst to learn every crewmate has vanished. Worse, a sinister presence has crawled aboard the ship. It's violent, destructive, and it can reach into your thoughts to make you see and feel what it wants. Anxiety-ridden Alto might be the least-qualified person to face a creature that can hack minds like computers. Only a perilous journey to the ship's bridge can reunite comms specialist with crew and give them a chance to call for help. But the intruder only scratches the surface of this crisis, and discovering the truth will bring Alto face to face against a nightmare beyond flesh and thought.

Mehso-so

Your Mind Is A Terrible Thing by Hailey Piper is a space horror centered around the unreliability of the brain and doing whatever it takes to survive.

Reading a bit like a fever dream, one that totally carried me along for the ride! I could never have guessed what was going to happen next.

Fans of horror mixed with sci-fi, set in space, this is one for you!

Pickpick

Alto, wakes up on their starship to find all of the crew missing and all the wraiths (repurposed corpse AIs)except for one destroyed. They are then attacked by feral brains? I think audio was not the best route on this one. There is a lot of mental health commentary written as very scary mental warfare in here. My only issue is that the pace of the book often gets bogged down by certain details. The flow wasn‘t quite there for me. Still, a pick!

vivastory Great review! I watched Smile last week & I thought it contained some great commentary on mental health issues. I was really surprised by the movie. I definitely need to read more of Hailey's work. 1y

Reggie @vivastory I still need to see that one. Megan is on my radar right now. And if you‘re gonna pick a Piper I would say start with Benny Rose. 1y
Reggie @batsy I think I would have liked it more in print. But her imagination and the world she built astounds me. Hope you like it if you pick it up. 1y
Reggie @TrishB thanks!! 1y
vivastory @Reggie I have several of the Rewind or Die queued up on my kindle, including Benny Rose. I am def. intrigued by Megan. I saw an interesting review of it earlier today. 1y
Reggie @vivastory I‘ve heard the word campy when describing Megan. Which definitely means yes for me. 1y
Twainy Feral brains? Nuff said. 1y
Reggie @Twainy yes! 🧠🧠🧠 1y
