pickI can't stop thinking about how perfect a children's book this is. Tally gets a scholarship to a boarding school shortly before the Second World War. She expects it to be horrible and strict, but it's a weird and wonderful progressive school and she fits right in. On a trip to the Kingdom of Berania she meets lonely Prince Karil whomTally and her friends have to save from the Nazis. Every character is a delight to read and it was so much fun!

...except after I finished, I discovered I read it back in 2012 and apparently erased all memory of it. I guess that proves perfect books AREN‘T unless you also read them at the perfect time.
I just had the weirdest experience, y‘all. I finished THE DRAGONFLY POOL by Eva Ibbotson. I cried over it because it was FRICKIN PERFECT, and went to add it to my LibraryThing catalogue, and got a Duplicate Entry notification.
Because apparently I read it in 2012, when I really liked it but wasn‘t blown away. I have absolutely no memory of this.
This has never happened to me before. Casey is unimpressed and also judgey.

I listened to a big chunk of the book while I made two batches of cookies from SISTER PIE. I decided to put the peanut butter paprika dough in the freezer against future need, but I went ahead and baked the buttered rum shortbread straight off. Soon as it cools, I‘ll try a cookie and see if I consider the icing necessary. #audiobaking
