The Fiancée Farce
The Fiancée Farce: A Novel | Alexandria Bellefleur
6 posts | 11 read | 2 to read
Lambda Literary award winner and national bestselling author Alexandria Bellefleur returns with a steamy sapphic rom-com about a quiet bookseller and a romance novel cover model who agree to a modern-day marriage of convenience... Tansy Adams’ greatest love is her family’s bookstore, passed down from her late father. But when it comes to actual romance… Tansy can’t get past the first chapter. Tired of her stepfamily’s questions about her love life, Tansy invents Gemma, a fake girlfriend inspired by the stunning cover model on a bestselling book. They’ll never actually meet, so what’s the harm in a little fib? Yet when real-life Gemma crosses Tansy’s path, her white lie nearly implodes. Gemma van Dalen is a wild child, the outcast of her wealthy family, and now the latest heir to Van Dalen Publishing. But the title comes with one tiny condition: she must be married in order to inherit. When Gemma discovers a beautiful stranger has been pretending to date her for months, she decides to take the charade one step further—and announces their engagement. Gemma needs a wife to meet the terms of her grandfather’s will and Tansy needs money to save her struggling bookstore. A marriage could be mutually beneficial, if they can fool everyone into thinking it’s a love match. Unexpected sparks fly as Tansy and Gemma play the role of affectionate fiancées, and suddenly the line between convenient arrangement and real feelings begins to blur. But the scheming Van Dalen family won’t give up the company without a fight, and Gemma and Tansy’s newfound happiness might get caught in the fallout…

Tansy‘s step mom is about to sell the family bookstore & Gemma only inherits the publishing empire if she‘s married. It may have started as a marriage of convenience for them both to save their family businesses but they fall in love quickly. go lesbians. I was wholeheartedly rooting for Tansy & Gemma the whole time, their love, them taking down toxic family members etc. wouldn‘t call it steamy or spicy but it was enjoyable all the way through

If you‘re looking for a romance to cuddle up to for some weekend reading(especially if you‘re in Chicago with this perfect reading weather), may I suggest The Fiancèe Farce?

It features on my absolute favorite tropes—marriage of convenience—in a modern setting. Something I often find difficult for contemporaries and that I think Bellefleur navigates wonderfully.

Nothing about this situation screamed realism, but it was the most fun I've had with a book in ages. I was rooting for Tansy and Gemma every step of the way, and seeing them achieve their goals, fall in love, and take down toxic male relatives was everything I never knew I wanted. I also loved the little Easter egg from her previous series! The perfect spring read. #contemporaryromance

This #ARC was a delight! Bellefleur delivers a sweet queer romance with a lot of heart and a little space. Pacing felt a bit uneven in places but the setting and hilarious side characters make it all work. Add cats named Mills and Boon? I‘m sold. Releasing on April 18, I recommend this one! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
