I found Death of an Ex by Delia Pitts to be an okay read. I didn‘t think there was much suspense in the book. The MC is Vandy Myrik, who is dealing with her grief over the death of her daughter. Her ex, Phil, comes back into her life unexpectedly. There was good character development of Vandy, but I just was kept engaged with the book. 3⭐️

This was okay. Reading about how state borders came into existence was way more boring than expected. These facts were so obscure they‘ll never even show up on Jeopardy. Worst of all, the book was organized in alphabetical order instead of by region, so there was a lot of repeat information. For example you learn about the border between North and South Dakota when you learn about all of North Dakota‘s border and then again when you get to SD.

The_Book_Ninja Does it tell you why Missouri took a little chunk out of Arkansas? I need to know! 17h
TheAromaofBooks This was also a TV series at some point (can't remember what platform) and it was more engaging in that format - I also found this book to be rather flat. 16h

“…a tent represented adventures and possibilities, giving you the stars every single night. But a house stayed in one place, safe but always the same.”

MG novel of self-discovery and truth finding mixed with tween awkwardness and a last name that nobody wants. 3.7 🌟

High Season | Katie Bishop

High Season is a book that deals with a death that occurred 20 years ago. Nina Drayton's sister, Tam, was killed. Nina, at age 6, was the star witness. She said she saw Josie Jackson, her babysitter, kill her. Don't worry, I'm not spoiling anything 😊 The reader gets this info in the first chapter. The question you have to ask yourself is: Is a child 6 years old a good witness?

The book is divided into 4 parts and flips back and ⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read forth between the present and 20 years ago. I thought the first 2 parts were really good. The book moved at a good pace, but by the third part, it started to slow down. When I got to the fourth part, to me, the book was dragging. I personally think Bishop could have closed the book sooner, but that's just my opinion. Will I read more by her? Most likely.

The book publishes August 12, 2025. It's a good book, just drags a bit. If it sounds good to you, pick it up on the 12th.

Thanks to Goodreads, St. Martin's Press and Bishop for the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Last few Star Wars books have been the same damn plot--kidnap, rescue, lots of close calls. It's been like reading a season of The A-Team.

Memoir by the late Whitney Houston‘s bodyguard during the late 1980s and mid-1990s. Sad 😢. He could protect her from everyone except herself.

Inheritance games? Yes, please. I liked the whole idea of the MC going back home to her estranged family to play the game her father left behind. Unfortunately, the games were kind of tamed. I think I was expecting more of the games, which disappointed me a bit. However, it was a pretty decent read.
