The Book of Eve
The Book of Eve: A Beguiling Historical Feminist Tale - Inspired by the Undeciphered Voynich Manuscript | MEG. CLOTHIER
3 posts | 2 read | 5 to read
In the name of the Father, not a word of this. Her letters are forbidden. Beatrice is the convent's librarian. For years, she has shunned the company of her sisters, finding solace only with her manuscripts. Then, one carnival night, two women, bleeding and stricken, are abandoned outside the convent's walls. Moments from death, one of them presses something into Beatrice's hands: a bewitching book whose pages have a dangerous life of their own. But men of the faith want the book destroyed, and a zealous preacher has tracked it to her door. Beatrice's life - the convent's survival - both are now at stake. The book's voice is growing stronger. An ancient power uncoils. Will she dare to listen?

Pickpick

Best thing about a bank holiday is not feeling guilty staying up til 1 to finish an odd little book. And this was odd bit well written. The story of Beatrice the librarian in an Italian convent who finds herself in possession of a special book that challenges the church. A powerful and feminist tale about women, their role in the church it was a bit too fantastical for me
