Pierce Browns Red Rising: Sons of Ares Vol. 3: Forbidden Song
Pierce Browns Red Rising: Sons of Ares Vol. 3: Forbidden Song | Pierce Brown, Rik Hoskin
3 posts | 2 read | 1 reading | 1 to read
The third and final book in the Red Rising Graphic Novel series is here! The last two entries into the Sons of Ares had Fitchner on his heels. In the first, he was driven by love and desperation to save his wife Brynn before her execution at the hands of the Board of Quality Control. Then, in book two, Fitchner went head to head with both of his early allies Arturius and Quicksilver. His wrath left Arturius dead and set back Quicksilvers dream of expanding exploration and human habitation to other stars. In Forbidden Song, Ares may not always be in control. But he has a plan and its a doozy. FORBIDDEN SONG is one part Oceans 11, one part Les Miserable, and it sets the fuse for the Rising that Darrow will inherit.

The art style isn‘t my favorite, but I love that the dialogue boxes for all of the characters are the same color as the character (i.e, Fitchner‘s speech is gold, Ryanna is red, etc). It‘s the little details that make this prequel to the Red Rising series truly special. I have loved getting Ares backstory, and it reinforces the fact that I am not emotionally ready for Light Bringer. 😭 Per aspera ad astra Howlers. 🐺

Like his books, Brown‘s story brings the same urgency, the same tension ratcheting up with each page, the same sense of unavoidable consequences for the choices made, & the emotional toll it all takes to this comic. It‘s an entertaining read—with a fantastic, inevitable ending—that whets your appetite for the larger series and, of course, makes the wait for Light Bringer feel just a little bit longer. A good read for Howlers & fans of the series.

Ordered myself a little something to tide me over until Light Bringer releases in July. 😍 #bookmail

TracyReadsBooks I just did the same thing! And have you seen the Barnes and Noble exclusive edition of Light Bringer? Some gorgeous art! Can‘t wait. 2y
DGRachel @TracyReadsBooks Pierce shared some of the art on Instagram. It does look beautiful but B&N is on my sh*t list right now, so I just preordered a standard version from my local indie. I‘m not going to buy multiple print versions, but I‘ll probably grab a digital copy so I don‘t have to haul the hardcover around! 2y
TracyReadsBooks Yeah, exclusive editions are always tempting but they add up…and when they‘re the size of most of the Red Rising books, they take up a lot of shelf space too. I think the hardcover (or softcover) and digital copy so it‘s always with you is the way to go! 2y
