The witch-hunt was also the first persecution in Europe that made use of a multimedia propaganda to generate a mass psychosis among the population. Alerting the public to the dangers posed by the witches, through pamphlets publicizing the most famous trials and the details of their atrocious deeds, was one of the first tasks of the printing press

Federici provides an easily understandable history of the reason why and mechanism by which the powerful began to subjugate the proletariat during primitive accumulation. She shows the use of community and cultural degradation by the bourgeois allowed for the creation of the working class docile body and expanding that study to show how specifically these efforts targeted women. An absolute must read.

1. The Secret Commonwealth. I'm not highly motivated though and Circumstances occurred that didn't simplify things. I might make an effort of finishing it tomorrow, it's not like it's long.
2. Tagged! A feminist take on the Marxist idea of Primitive Accumulation (basically a pre-stage to capitalism) which reminds me that I should read Federici's latest.
3. Ever? I anticipated Pepperharrow a lot. It disappointed. #WeekendReads @rachelsbrittain

batsy I love the tagged book so much! Blew my mind open. 5y

i also recently finished caliban and the witch! my comfort zone is in the modern age, so i was excited learn about feudalism in the 13-15th centuries. federici‘s marxist feminist analysis of primitive accumulation is very interesting, even if i am unsure about a few of her conclusions. one thing i wonder is how federici accounts for women such as myself whose main stage for exploitation is the workplace, not their bodies. âï¸ 4.5/5 âï¸
