Something I Might Say
Something I Might Say | Stephanie Austin
3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Stephanie Austin had a complicated father and a complicated relationship with him. His death, after a short battle with lung cancer, forced her to reckon with his always-threatened and now permanent absence from her life. Then the health of her grandmother, with whom she had always been close, began to fail, and she faced another looming loss, intensified by the bewildering early months of the pandemic. Something I Might Say sits us at the bedside inside the sickroom with Stephanie Austin, and reminds us that the histories of our loves-the kindnesses and the disappointments too-sit with us in that final room.

Pickpick

This week I read my friend‘s book, essays of grief, first with the loss of her father followed by the loss of her grandmother. I thought I already read them all, but discovered I hadn‘t when I had to read a local author to get BINGO. Reading them compiled & sequenced, I got to experience the essays all again in a new way, and read some new material too. I was really moved by the progression of pain throughout. You should read it too.

Yesterday was such an exciting day! My friend of 22 years launched her first published book! When I very first met this talented lady she told me she was a writer, & that is who she is to the core. I‘ve watched her through the years grow, evolve, & never give up on her dream despite the rejection letters and obstacles life put in her way.
📕 You can buy her book of essays on grief from Barnes & Noble. I can verify it IS something she might say.

Velvetfur That's a lovely photo! And I'm very happy for your friend too 😁👍🏻 1y
