A triumphantly feminist retelling of ancient creation myths in the tradition of Madeline Miller and Claire North. Lyrically rendered, this epic U.S. debut tells the story of the woman known as Adam's first wife and her fall from Paradise and quest for revenge. Before Eve, there was Lilith. Lilith and Adam are equal and happy in the Garden of Eden. Until Adam decides Lilith should submit to his will and lie beneath him. She refusesand is banished forever from Paradise. Demonized and sidelined, Lilith watches in fury as God creates Eve, the woman who accepts her submission. But Lilith has a secret: she has already tasted the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. Endowed with Wisdom, she knows why AsherahGods wife and equal, the Queen of Heavenis missing. Lilith has a plan: she will rescue Eve, find Asherah, restore balance to the world, and regain her rightful place in Paradise. Liliths quest for justice drives her throughout history, from the ziggurats of Ancient Sumer, to the court of Israels Queen Jezebel, and to the side of a radical preacher in Roman Judea. Noahs wife, Norea, Jezebel and Mary Magdalene all play their part in Liliths enlightenment. In the modern age, as she observes the catastrophic consequences of a world built on inequality, Lilith finally understands what must be done to correct the wrong done to womenand all humankindat the beginning of time. Inspired by ancient myths and suppressed scriptures, Lilith is a thought-provoking and ambitious novel with an evocative literary voice and a triumphantly engaging heroine.

Excited to be starting this one - Nikki Marmery‘s first book was fantastic.
It‘s not often that a book matches my book pillow so well. 🍅
(I know that‘s a tomato, but we‘re just gonna pretend it‘s a pomegranate, mmmkay?)

GondorGirl I'm really excited about this one! I can't wait to hear what you think! 6mo

If you've ever questioned your faith in a God, read this. If you've ever felt alone and misunderstood as a woman, read this. If you've ever felt your voice is not being heard, read this. I don't think I've ever been more enlightened than while reading this! It truly has changed my life!

Aimeesue Got my copy today! Thanks for posting about it - I‘d totally forgotten the release date! 6mo
KateReadsYA @Aimeesue you're welcome!! 🤩 6mo
brittanyreads I'd really like to read this but saw a warning for graphic animal death. Could you tell me what kind of animal so I can prepare my fragile heart? 🫣😬 Lol 6mo

KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads Animal sacrifice for religious reasons. 6mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads I think it was a cow and lamb! I don't remember it being written super graphic. But to each their own regarding what you can handle for a trigger warning, you know? I get so sad when they constantly talk about abuse in books but it's sacrificing and letting the animal bleed for the God's. Sorry if that's too graphic. 6mo
brittanyreads Thank you for the clarification!! I use storygraph and I love their trigger warning section but sometimes it's very vague. I just can't do detailed, drawn out suffering or if a pet is harmed 😣 6mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads I don't remember anything being too brutal about the animals 6mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads Now the way women were treated that's a whole other story 😒 it's definitely worth a read. 6mo
brittanyreads I could use a good, heavy dose of a strong woman challenging inequality! I hope to pick it up soon! Thank you! 👩‍🦰 6mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads you're welcome. How are you liking Crescent City?? 6mo
brittanyreads It's good! It's amazing how SJM can make you feel nostalgic for characters you've only just met. Her books are always like slipping into a cozy old sweater. Bryce is a little grating as a MFC so I'm hoping she grows on me. I don't have that soft spot for her that I have for Feyre, Manon, or Aelin. But she is feisty which I like haha 6mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads SJM can always write a feisty MC we will learn to love in the end. 6mo
brittanyreads Totally! And side note, I bought Lilith at B&N this afternoon lol 🙃 can't wait to dive in! I'm not really digging Deadly Education. I may finish it, it's short, but I'm wanting to pick up something else 6mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads I'm getting to where if I'm not excited to pick my book up, it's gotta go lol. I am so excited for you to read it. I know some might not like the way she writes about religion, but I felt so enlightened 6mo
brittanyreads Same, girl, same! And sadly I am not wanting to pick up Novick. 🫣 I tend to have a very open mind and had previously not even known about Lilith so I am beyond intrigued!! Lately, I've been on a kick of reimagined villains. Were they really bad or did history just write them that way? I'd also love to get around to this one 6mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads OH yes I was looking that one up the other day. 6mo

“Lilith“ by Nikki Marmery offers a feminist reimagining of ancient creation myths, focusing on the character of Lilith, who is traditionally portrayed as Adam's first wife. The book takes readers on a journey from her expulsion from Eden through millennia of history as she seeks to restore balance and equality in the world.

It's a time for feminist retellings! This time we've got the first wife of Adam, Lilith. From being the first woman to goddess and demoness, Lilith is cast out of Paradise for her strong will and refusal to conform to patriarchal control. Told from her viewpoint, she travels throughout history as an immortal bearing witness to the Biblical changes and they way women are treated in this historical fiction meets gender study of a female icon.
