Als Coco en haar moeder Elisabeth elkaar op een dag bij toeval tegen het lijf lopen, vertelt de moeder tussen neus en lippen door dat ze niet lang meer te leven heeft. Coco voelt zich verantwoordelijk en trekt bij haar moeder in. Terug in het ouderlijk huis pakt Coco haar oude drankgewoontes weer op. Hoelang verdraagt de zieke Elisabeth haar dochter om zich heen? Esther Gerritsen (1972) debuteerde in 2000 met de verhalenbundel Bevoorrecht bewustzijn. Daarna volgden onder andere de romans Tussen Een Persoon en Normale dagen (longlist Libris Literatuurprijs 2006). In 2008 verscheen haar alom geprezen De kleine miezerige god (longlist Gouden Uil 2008). Twee jaar later stond de roman Superduif op de shortlist van de Libris Literatuurprijs.

so-so

A mother is dying and her daughter moves in with her to take care of her. They are not close however, have never been. So their living together again feels very unnatural and has its effects in both women and how they behave towards each other.
It‘s an okay read by a promising Dutch author but there‘s no need to run to the store to get the English translation.

BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes I‘m almost finished with Pearl. It‘s okayish. I agree mostly with you on the Booker but you must read All the Little Birds Hearts and The House of Doors! 8mo

sarahbarnes Okay! If you recommend them I obviously will! I‘m on the list at the library for house of doors and hope to get it soon. I‘m probably bailing on Bee Sting. 😬 8mo
