Three couples. Three days. A family getaway to die for. Every year, the illustrious Van Ness siblings--heirs to a copper fortune--gather at their luxury winery estate for a joint birthday celebration. It's a tradition they've followed nearly all their lives, and now they are back with their significant others for a much-needed weekend of rest and relaxation, away from the spotlight of a recent public scandal. With lavish comforts, gorgeous scenery, and indulgent drinking, the trip should be the perfect escape. But it soon becomes clear that even a remote idyllic getaway can't keep out the problems simmering in each of their lives--or the reminders of a past tragedy at the estate. As old tensions are reignited, the three couples are pushed to the edge. Will their secrets destroy them, or will they destroy each other first? And who's been watching them from beyond the vineyard gates? When a torrential rainstorm hits, plunging them into darkness, the answers prove all too deadly...

This felt more dysfunctional family drama than mystery-thriller, although there are plenty of secrets to lend toward suspense. I was curious who the identity of “The Party Guest” was, but with limited characters, it‘s not hard to figure it out.

Finished this one during a slow day at work… a bit by the numbers but overall a solid read with some interesting twists 😜

A book meant for a rainy October night, not a bright spring day. Nothing mind blowing here, this is entirely predictable but good if you want a fast paced thriller.

This audiobook was fun but it didn't knock my socks off. I found myself hating all of the characters.. and it turns out there was a good reason for that! the pace was extremely slow and there weren't many thrilling aspects in this thriller..I enjoyed Vacker's narration but its also a context clue. The excitement didn't really get started until the last 25% of the book, that's just not good enough to warrant a better rating. Overall, just okay. ⭐⭐⭐

An annual birthday party gone wrong.

But what can go wrong and does go wrong with this year‘s celebration?

PLENTY!!

A very character-driven novel that has a slow buildup, but once ALL the secrets and conniving characters are revealed you won‘t be able to turn the pages fast enough to find out what happens.
