This was adult Mean Girls meets Erin Brokovich meets The Wicker Man meets The Minotaur. We follow Linda and her family be accepted into a utopian town in the future against something called The Great Unwinding, climate crises, food and resource scarcity, government breakdown, etc. This is what happens when you let large corporations build these towns and let the Ritchie Riches of the world run them. I needed to find out what was happening 👇🏼

Reggie @Suet624 yes. I keep seeing their on y YouTube shorts where he talks about all the empty homes and apartments that are empty because rich people from the city bought them and charged rents no one in the area could afford. It‘s depressing. 6mo

I loved “Good Neighbors“ and the dynamics of families and neighbors is an important feature of this new book as well. Once again set in the near future, this one features the ultimate gated community (high walls, guards, etc.). The author does a great job of character development and wonderfully sets up the somewhat creepy atmosphere of the town, it's many rules and traditions, and things that are being left unsaid. I should‘ve DNF‘d this one since early on I was finding myself bored as shit with it. For some reason, I stuck with it. It must‘ve had something to do with liking this author's previous novel. It had the makings of something I would‘ve liked it just didn‘t deliver for me…but apparently, it did for others.

AudiobookingWithLeah 2⭐The narration is what killed this for me. She has a great voice and her dialogue was really quite good…but everything else felt like AI was reading a book to me. That, coupled with the super fast pacing made this a less than mediocre listen. Normally, I like my books fast-paced but this one took it to a whole new level because I had a lot of WTF is going on moments.
