This is my #10BeforeTheEnd stack 2024. I am not reading them in any order- just will choose a book a week. This week my book is the tagged book because it is a new library book so I have a limited time to read before returning it. Thanks for hosting this @ChaoticMissAdventures ! The 9 others are all #TBR books from my bookcase!

Lesliereadsalot Loved The Road to Dalton and its sequel. 2mo

This is the 3rd book in a series, but it could be easily read as a stand alone. It is set in Rome around the film industry in 1955, with some flashbacks to the actions of a young resistance fighter during WWII. It deals with the complicated results of the war and the power of the church. While the story was slow in some parts, I really enjoyed it and found it took a somewhat deeper and more nuanced look at the war's effects on the area. 4.25/5!

Mehso-so

This is the third book from Natalie Jenner and honestly the first one I trudged through. I don‘t know if it‘s because I didn‘t connect with Vivien (who is the main character)? Her previous books have been sweet and had a Jennifer Ryan-esque feel to them. This didn‘t feel like her other books and that bums me out, I loved them so much I pre-ordered this one the instant I heard about it. Oh well. No rush to read the next one now 🤷🏼‍♀️

A shoutout to Bookshop.org for kicking butt with quickly shipping out preorders! I used to preorder with B&N but they didn‘t ship until the pub date (which I get is the correct thing to do), but that means I wouldn‘t get it until at least the following week😫 Amazon ships them early so they arrive to me ON the pub date, but they‘re icky. What‘s a girl to do?? With Bookshop.org I have my preorder in hand the same week AND I‘m helping my local indie

Amiable That's good to know! 7mo

As a continuation of the characters showcased in The Jane Austen Society and Bloomsbury Girls, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, just as I did its predecessors. Set in 1955, Vivien Lowry faces challenges as she begins her career as a playwright with a commercially successful opening in London only to be panned by reviewers. At the recommendation of a friend, she moves to Rome and takes a position as a script doctor on a major film shooting at 🔻

robinb Cinecitta Studios. While there she meets lots of interesting characters, both famous and infamous, and she takes the opportunity to close a chapter in her life by searching for clues as to what happened to her deceased fiancé during the war.
I enjoyed Vivien‘s complexity as a strong, independent woman of her time who has to deal with her vulnerability in her not-so-successful romantic entanglements. This is a story of growth, both personal ?

robinb and professional-wise and learning to see and seek out what‘s best for her. It‘s also a fascinating look at Italy as she strives to recover from her war wounds and look to a brighter future.
Very well done. 4.25/5⭐️

A bit darker than I was expecting. Tearjerker ending.

While I enjoyed the history of film making it did slow the story down a bit. I'm looking forward to listening to audiobook when it is released. There was a lot going on and I think a second read would help wrap my mind around the story. #ARC
