Obstinate, headstrong girl!" - Chapter 56

#FlashbackFriday of one of my many t-shirts with this quote. There is no greater compliment you can give a Janeite. Elizabeth standing up for herself inspired me as a teenager to have the courage to stand up for myself. I so love this chapter. ?????

"Elizabeth had the satisfaction of receiving an answer to her letter as soon as she possibly could. She was no sooner in possession of it than, hurrying into the little copse, where she was least likely to be interrupted, she sat down on one of the benches and prepared to be happy; for the length of the letter convinced her that it did not contain a denial." - Chapter 52

This section of P & P has lots of letters. After all that's how people communicated. This one is particularly fun. It's made to look like Lydia wrote her note that she left for Mrs Foster on the back of fashion sheet. Which is totally something Lydia would do. ✉️

Crinoline_Laphroaig Jane Austen Ten Pound note had just been released when we were in UK. I had to go to several banks to find one. Lovely ladies at the Gretna branch of Royal Bank of Scotland found me one.

Thought I had lost her in the fire. When recovering things from ruins, niece sat with a stack water logged copies of Pride and Prejudice. She patiently pulled apart soggy pages until she found her. Once she dried out, she was fine just a bit singed. 💷

Crinoline_Laphroaig Found this edition a Library Book Sale for a quarter. It's been horribly Americanized. Pickpick

#Pemberlittens It's time for #JaneAdjacent Book Club!
SarahBookInterrupted @willaful @mctrish @LitsyEvents @Graciouswarriorprincess

1️⃣ New read. Print, Kindle, and Audiobook. When I picked this I was looking for an Austen retelling for Pride. I didn't realize it was Time Travel. Love that!👇

Crinoline_Laphroaig 2️⃣ Matthew - ‘Tears sting at my eyes as I pull him into a hug, grateful for this prim-and-proper guy who showed me that Prince Charming could have a bit of a wild side.

3️⃣ Runaway Bride on horseback.👇

4w
Crinoline_Laphroaig 4️⃣ “I pray to Jane Austen herself for strength.”

“And there‘s no denying I feel kind of unexpectedly cool right now. Like I‘m Keira Knightley in a period drama, about to gaze forlornly out a window or cry a single tear in a bumpy carriage.”

“And I‘ll ruin the plot of every good book published for the next fifty years. Jane Austen? Louisa May Alcott? The Brontë sisters? Ruined. You‘ll curse my name until the day you die!”
4w
Crinoline_Laphroaig 5️⃣ When I first heard Dutch Reach, my mind immediately went to @FictionalHangover discussion of a sex scene in the Dead to the World Episode. And everyone I asked immediately thought it was something kinky, not a safer way to open a car door. 😂
4w
See All 7 Comments
Crinoline_Laphroaig 6️⃣ Go to the Past and get Jane Austen to tell me what happened in the last unfinished novel, Sanditon. Or read all of Jane's letters before Cassandra burned them.

7️⃣ While it wouldn't be fun to have your opinions ignored, I'm going with Regency because even if you can say whatever you want it's High School. Doesn't mean it's going to be fun.

8️⃣ Artist. I would love to be able to sketch.
4w
Crinoline_Laphroaig 9️⃣ Really made me think of how horrible a woman's life can be when she is at the mercy of men. Also with how terrible Lucy's father was, it was nice to see Audrey's family being so loving. I liked that it was never really explained how Time Travel worked. It just was.

#Pemberlittens probably know this. First-edition was printed as a set of three volumes.

So today's chapter number depends on whether edition you're reading follows the original: Volume 2 - Chapter 1 or if it goes sequential, its Chapter 24.

I'm going with Chapter 24 because it's easier for me to keep track. And today's quote: "Mr. Darcy was condemned as the worst of men."?

"The two young ladies were summoned from the shrubbery, where this conversation passed, by the arrival of the very persons of whom they had been speaking; Mr. Bingley and his sisters came to give their personal invitation for the long-expected ball at Netherfield, which was fixed for the following Tuesday." Chapter 17

Crinoline_Laphroaig #Pemberlittens I couldn't help noticing this morning as I walked the shrubbery that lavender Crepe Myrtle matches today's edition of Pride and Prejudice. It's illustrated by Bil Donovan, the first appointed artist in residence for Christian Dior.

Chapter 16: "It gives me pain to speak ill of a Darcy." And then he does.

#Pemberlittens busy day, listened while picking blueberries. ???

"Both changed colour, one looked white, the other red. Mr. Wickham, after a few moments, touched his hat—a salutation which Mr. Darcy just deigned to return. What could be the meaning of it? It was impossible to imagine; it was impossible not to long to know." - Chapter 15 ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig Today's edition is a used bookstore find. Features a cover reminiscent of 1940s Pride and Prejudice movie with Greer Garson and Laurence Oliver. It's been a long time since I watched it. Mostly I remember the costumes. Hoop skirts! So wrong for the Regency period. 🤓

rubyslippersreads That almost looks like a grown-up Shirley Temple as Elizabeth. 1mo

Mr. Collins readily assented, and a book was produced; but, on beholding it (for everything announced it to be from a circulating library), he started back, and begging pardon, protested that he never read novels." Chapter 14

#Pemberlittens know never trust a man who would rather read sermons than a novel.

"I have been so fortunate as to be distinguished by the patronage of the Right Honourable Lady Catherine de Bourgh,"- Chapter 13

#Pemberlittens letter from Mr Collins in which we first hear about Lady Catherine.

"Elizabeth had been at Netherfield long enough." Chapter 12.

Most chapters of Pride and Prejudice are fairly short but today's was only 2 pages long. I read this morning while waiting for kettle to boil.

#Pemberlittens At $10 this illustrated edition I bought last year at Barnes & Noble is quite the deal. ?

"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book!" - Chapter 11

#Pemberlittens such a great quote and it's said by Caroline Bingley, who doesn't read. ?

Today's is a Signet Classic. Such a fun cover.
