Bad News the Murder on Location series I've been reading off and on Christmas story really annoyed me. I hate when authors do this. Spoilery Rant hidden in Comments. #Pemberlittens

I didn't include this quote in my Discussion Post, I've just carried around with me for few days. Today is the 3rd Anniversary of the house fire. It's always going to be a time of contemplation not only of things lost but on good times.
Included in those memories are all the #Pemberlittens who sent me books to rebuild my library. That kindness still feels me with joy.

Good start to December. I finished both tagged book and Rational Creatures. Anthologies are often a mixed bag but I enjoyed most of the stories. Standouts:
For Mischief's Sake by Amy D'Oramzio featuring Captain Fredrick Tilney. Such a great redemption arc! I loved Catherine Morland's part in that.
I particularly loved Where the Sky Touches the Sea by KaraLynne Mackrory featuring The Crofts. ⬇️

Quick fun read. As often happens with cozies there was some silly, why would you do that, moments.
I really like that there are a 40! books in this seasonal mystery series. 🥧

Depressing slog. Put this in the category of its a classic, I never have to read again. But thank you @BarkingMadRead for the #HashtagBrigade as an Okie I wanted to read.
HOWEVER, Sallisaw is actually closer to Arkansas while it was affected by The Depression it WASN'T part of the Dust Bowl. It always bugs me when authors get State wrong. There's a very big difference between the flat of the panhandle and green country of eastern Oklahoma. 📍

As lover of Jane Austen and member of Fictional Hangover's https://www.fictionalhangover.com/ Vampire Book Club I definitely had to read Jane and the Damned.
I think author did a good job of mixing Jane and Vampires. Love story was bit silly, but enjoyable read. I'm putting Book 2 Blood Persuasion on my December reading tbr.

Ch. 24 (Vol II, Ch XII) Conclusion. "She gloried in being a sailor‘s wife, but she must pay the tax of quick alarm for belonging to that profession which is, if possible, more distinguished in its domestic virtues than in its national importance. THE END."
Read the final pages on the Book Porch with rain, cozy blanket, & a wee whiskey. Such a joy to reread a chapter a day.

Only one more chapter!

Chapter 22 (Volume II, Chapter 10): "I hope you do not think I am so illiberal as to want every man to have the same objects and pleasures as myself. I have a great value for Benwick; and when one can but get him to talk, he has plenty to say. His reading has done him no harm, for he has fought as well as read." - Persuasion

Mrs Smith spills the tea! ?
Here's a lovely flashback to Pemberlittens readalong back in 2021. We dismantled The Glasshouse and moved it bit by bit to new house. All pieces are neatly stacked in a corner of the shop building, to hopefully rise again one day.

Chapter 20 (Volume II, Chapter 8.) “You were a good while at Lyme, I think?”
Seaside is such a big part of Persuasion's storyline. Has me thinking about that time I carried The Lonely Shore: Jane Austen and the Sea by Julia Fry with me on vacation just so I could read on the beach.
Because it was a gift I was extra careful not to get it wet or full of sand. 🌊

Ch19 (Vol II, Ch 7) "While Admiral Croft was taking this walk with Anne, and expressing his wish of getting Captain Wentworth to Bath, Captain Wentworth was already on his way thither. Before Mrs. Croft had written, he was arrived; and the very next time Anne walked out, she saw him."
Persuasion just inspires walking. I took late afternoon walk to the pond and read my chapter. ?

Ch 18 (Vol II, Ch VI) "He was ordered to walk, to keep off the gout, and Mrs. Croft seemed to go shares with him in every thing, and to walk for her life, to do him good."
Time has passed. No longer at Uppercross in Fall, moved on to February in Bath.
Spotted on my walk yesterday, gorgeous red leaves of maple in my yard, looking across to more fall color around neighbors pond. ?

Chapter 17. (Volume II, Chapter V). "While Sir Walter and Elizabeth were assiduously pushing their good fortune in Laura-place, Anne was renewing an acquaintance of a very different description." - Persuasion.
Something I've never noticed before. Persuasion has Chapter Titles. I don't remember any other Austen books having anything but numbers. ?

Chapter 16 (Volume II, Chapter IV):"In the course of the same morning, Anne and her father chancing to be alone together, he began to compliment her on her improved looks;" - Persuasion.

"no one so proper, so capable as Anne!”- Persuasion. Things go wrong and you need someone like Anne.
I've loved this little seating area I made that looks out over the kitchen garden. Perfect for early morning cups of tea and reading Jane Austen.

#ARichLife What's on my #Table for fall - Franciscan 'October' dishes. @eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 🍂🍁

November walk inspired by yesterday's chapter. Had our first hard freeze in the morning. Afternoon was perfect for wearing my new Irish sweater and hat. Laphroaig scarf found awhile back on Ebay. I'm slowly replacing things like these that I lost in house fire. Love how they match this Persuasion.
Today we're off to the seaside (virtually) - "The young people were all wild to see Lyme."

No I'm not day drinking, it's a picture from last year. I'm joining in today with prompt of #fireside for #ARichLife challenge. Drinking a dram by the fire is one my favorite things about cold weather. Even better with a good book. 📖📚🥃
@eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I missed last few prompts. Busy weekend. Week looks quieter.

Chapter 10 has inspired me to get out for a November walk this afternoon. Especially since it's cold & I have a new sweater.🍁🍂

#Harvest Day 1 of #ARichLife Challenge with @Eggs & @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks made me think of my fall patio table display and 2 gardening books I finished in October. Both were inspiring reads to see what can be grow in the challenging climate of Shetland.

I tune into Youtube @ceciliablomdahl?si=ch5bzcrrEqSTPzw6" rel="nofollow" target="_top">https://youtube.com/@ceciliablomdahl?si=ch5bzcrrEqSTPzw6 every Sunday to watch Cecilia, Christoffer, and Grim, so I was delighted when Life on Svalbard came out last fall.

Tue when Polar Night returned, I traded my usual tea for latte in Cecilia's honor and settled in to read last few pages of this amazing adventure. ☕️🌌🐶

Chapter A Day Readalong starts today. Last of our 'Then' reads. I just realized I have seven print copies. One for every day of the week. Which edition will you be reading?

I enjoy the Mrs Claus series for the atmosphere of Santaland and especially elves celebrating other holidays. Looking forward to reading Mrs. Claus and the Trouble with Turkeys in November.
Not exactly - Paranomal but where counting @julieclair for #ThematicCozies.

It was excellent Emma 'Now' month! Nice mix of classic adaptation, continuation, and modern day retellings. All in the spirit of Jane.

Annual seasonal reread of has begun. While most of the story takes place in December, it actually begins in October. Pages 1-46 in the hardback I have. "It was a dull, grey afternoon in the middle of October, with nothing much to commend about it. The last of autumn‘s leaves fell from trees, with an unseasonably icy breeze too chill for even the most ardent of gardeners to be out and about."

A couple of weeks ago Mr. Crinoline was working in Mankato. I have been to see the Betsy and Tacy houses a few years ago with a friend, he had never been. And while the Betsy Tacy Society wasn't open, he did walk around and snaped some pictures. Now every time I mention Betsy/Tacy he says 'you mean Maud and Bick?' 🏡

Mid-month check in for Emma 'Now'. I joined a couple of friends for a movie watch party of Clueless. Such a fun trip back to the 90's. What are you reading or watching? 💛💛💛💛💛

I love how in small town cozies there's always the perfect coffee shop, bakery, book store, etc. I enjoy the fantasy. Reality is bank, post office, and a kwik stop.
On lots of fall themed reading lists. Actually takes place at the end of summer. Near the end there's jump to Thanksgiving for a chapter and then on to Epilogue the next summer.
"Summer made Hazel grumpy." Same Hazel, same. Sooo ready for cozy read by the fire weather. ???

Happy October #Pemberlittens! It's time for Emma 'Now' - reading an adaptation or retelling of the classic or watching a movie. You're choice! look forward to seeing what everyone chooses. Myself first up is ARC I've been saving for October. (Publication date is 11-25-25). Book 2 of the Emma Knightley Mysteries. I've read the 1st chapter and I'm hooked.
What's your plan for October?
