Since I'm too sick to do my Vlog, here is my review: This series is wonderful and I absolutely adored the second volume! Planchette is still working to get out the ghosts in her house, Babs and Sun are working things out in faerie land and there's even a wedding! Great story and wonderful cute illustrations.
I wasn‘t expecting a sequel but I happened to spy this on display at the library and just had to bring it home with me. Details of the first volume are a bit hazy but this time Planchette the kitchen witch takes the back seat while her friends Sun and Babs take a turn as the main characters. Like last time, there are ghosts galore and a (murder) mystery (of sorts) is resolved. The vibes are good!
Several magical young women support each other in their challenges and adventures. Like the first book, this second volume is charming and I have no doubt it is beloved by many readers. I still don't care for this series, but read it because I like the author's literary videos on YouTube (check her out at LavenderTowne! I particularly loved her Howl's Moving Castle video). #Comics #Magic
UNFAMILIAR vol 1 and 2 by HALEY NEWSOME
Delightful graphic novel series about a witch who moves into a haunted house. Planchette soon makes new friends, like Babs the siren, and Sun who‘s suffering from a vile curse. Maybe they can help her with her haunted house? Originally a webcomic, UNFAMILIAR is a whimsical and adorable series. I love the artwork, the characters are really cute and their eyes are extra-expressive. Quirky and cozy!
Hard to say whether I want more in this series because the ending felt rushed or I just love the characters and the art and the overall vibe, but I sincerely hope even if the story threads from volume one are mostly tied up, the author/illustrator decides to introduce new plot lines in a new volume in the future. Evading Fae, helping ghosts, the importance of snacks, queer romance, supportive friendship and empowerment plus pastel goth aesthetic.
