Sweet Tooth Vol. 2: In Captivity
Sweet Tooth Vol. 2: In Captivity | Jeff Lemire
14 posts | 27 read | 3 to read
Following on the heels of THE NOBODY, his Vertigo graphic novel debut, writer/artist Jeff Lemire pens his very first ongoing series SWEET TOOTH. A cross between Bambi and Cormac McCarthy's The Road, SWEET TOOTH tells the story of Gus, a rare new breed of human/animal hybrid children, has been raised in isolation following an inexplicable pandemic that struck a decade earlier. Now, with the death of his father he's left to fend for himself . . . until he meets a hulking drifter named Jepperd who promises to help him. Jepperd and Gus set out on a post-apocalyptic journey into the devastated American landscape to find 'The Preserve' a refuge for hybrids. In this second volume, Lemire explores the heartbreaking story of Jeppard and how he went from a devoted husband to the ruthless mercenary he is now. Meanwhile, Gus is captured in a camp with other hybrid creatures where he meets Dr. Singh, a scientist studying the plague that's wiped out so much of the world. By traveling more into Gus' past, Singh will learn more about the plague, as well as clues at how some of it might relate to Gus and his father. Collects issues #6-11.

Fellow Littens, why must I fall in love with every artist I encounter?

Another fantastic volume of Sweet Tooth. I‘m completely intrigued by this storyline, and can‘t wait to read on. 🖤 ❤️ @TricksyTails #LetsGetGraphicWeeklongMarathon

TricksyTails Yay!! 👏😁 7y
ErikaB I feel like this series is comparable to The Walking Dead (which I must admit that I've only read a few volumes of because I don't like zombies), but much, much better. Gus and the other kids just about broke my heart in every book. I'd love to see a movie or TV show adaptation. 7y

Trying to get 15 minutes of reading in before I start my shift. My breakfast of bananas and strawberries mixed with greek yogurt definitely looks like something a toddler would eat, but it‘s delicious 🤤

🙂🙃 @TricksyTails #LetsGetGraphicWeeklongMarathon 🙃🙂

RealLifeReading I want to read this! Sadly my library doesn't have it 7y

I just seen this now! With only five hours left, I'm going to be joining the game late... but I'm coming home with 16 more library books so I might as well get cracking! 😂📚❤️

Another gem from my clients' book shelves. Slow start, but worth the read. Final volume is the best, & I wish I could've seen more of the world of epologue.
The future: a mysterious plague wiped out most of humanity, & and children born since then, though immune, are human/animal hybrids. Enter Gus, nicknamed Sweet Tooth, a hybrid with deer features, who must leave his isolated home w/ a mysterious drifter when hunters descend on him

DNFed this one. Had it sitting in my table for months, accruing library late fees, and realized I just didn't care. Finally returned it today.

In addition to the late nights, worked most of today. Settling in to burn through a number of graphic novels. Spamming you all in 3...2...1...

Volume 2 reveals Jepperd's backstory and echoes of Jeff Lemire's Essex County comics, which I love as much as Descender. The flux of past and present story lines is handled beautifully. He's such a powerful story teller.

When in doubt, pick up a graphic novel by Jeff Lemire! His Sweet Tooth series is my favorite, I even dressed up as the title character for Halloween one year! #favegraphicnovel #booktober

One of my favorite comic series of all time! So much so that I may have dressed up as Sweet Tooth for Halloween a few years back. This series has such an interesting premise and so much heart
