All in the Mind
All in the Mind | Jenny Twist
1 post | 1 read
Tilly is part of an experiment working on a cure for Alzheimer's disease. She and most of the other patients taking part in the experiment seem to make a full recovery, but there is a strange side effect. Tilly and her fellow experimental subjects appear to be getting younger. Can the same experiment be repeated for Tilly's beloved husband so that he can recover from a stroke? Tilly thinks it can and she will move heaven and earth to make sure it happens.

Mehso-so

Tilly Thompson wakes up in a care home, but this is one with a difference as the patients with Alzheimers there are taking part in an experimental cure. The patients are immersed in the world as it was when they were younger, which for Tilly was the 1940s, so all the décor, the food they eat, even the clothes are all designed to 'fool' the brain into believing it is still the past. (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf It seems to be working as Tilly & most of the other patients show strong signs of both mental & physical regeneration. Tilly's husband, James, has suffered a stroke & Tilly wonders if the experimental cure could be tweaked for others.

This was a rather strange read but one that looks at our current concepts of ageing & infirmity. What if we could rewind our biological 'clock' & relive our lives?

OutsmartYourShelf It's definitely an intriguing concept for a book but it became even more farfetched when winding back the clock also fixed a physical issue from a character's younger days. It also suddenly took a turn from the realm of sci-fi/fantasy into arranged marriages which to me was a strange juxtaposition of storylines. Overall, interesting concept but a little too out there at times. 3⭐
