For #weeklyfavorites, I‘m sharing this fashion history book that I read. This is an ARC that I was approved for. It‘s about the history of fashion during WWII. I don‘t follow fashion or know anything about it but I like seeing what the musicians on music award shows are wearing. However, this book gave me a different perspective that I wouldn‘t normally get from watching those award shows on TV and I found it very interesting.

kelli7990 The song that I feel like fits the vibe of this book is The Look by Roxette because this is a fashion book. Link to song: https://youtu.be/dzrPH89rtWY?si=scuffkTTxDTgWins 4mo

I finished reading the tagged book yesterday while coloring this picture. It‘s a work in progress but I‘m almost finished with it. I still haven‘t written my book review yet. I was busy last night and I didn‘t have time to write it.

I‘ve been making more progress in this book. I listened to some of it this afternoon while I was coloring and then I just listened to another chapter tonight after I got done taking a shower. It bothered me at first that I don‘t have pictures of the fashion to look at but it‘s not bothering me anymore. I‘ve accepted it. Maybe I just needed to color a picture while listening to the audiobook so I feel like I have something to look at.

kelli7990 (Continued in comments) All I had to do while listening to the audiobook was just finish coloring a picture that I already started coloring. I don‘t really follow fashion but I still think the book is interesting. I‘m glad I‘ve made more progress in this book. I didn‘t know if I was ever going to make any more progress. It‘s been taking me a long time to read this book because the chapters are so long. (edited) 4mo

I googled this Claire McCardell dress that was mentioned. It‘s interesting what a lady said that she wore it as but wouldn‘t it have had to be dry cleaned a lot? I don‘t know how it would have stayed looking nice if a woman wanted to wear it for different things back then because life happens and you never know when you‘re going to spill food on yourself or whatever.

kelli7990 (Continued in comments) I spill food or coffee on my clothes sometimes and I‘ve started saying that I‘m going to have to start wearing a bib if I want my clothes to stay looking nice but that‘s life. It happens. Clothes can be washed but sometimes, I can‘t always wash my clothes right away. I could be going out to eat for lunch and I‘ll spill food on myself. 4mo

I didn‘t know that fashion designers back then designed clothing for different activities that people were doing such as going bicycling, bowling or walking in the country and for fall bicycling and winter walks. Fashion has evolved so much. They have workout clothes now. I take my dog for a walk but I don‘t wear workout clothes for that. I‘m fine just wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Besides, it‘s too hot right now in TX to wear anything else.

Another fashion item that was mentioned was a Monastic Dress and I was wondering what that was so I googled it. It looked like this. I don‘t really care for it and I probably wouldn‘t wear it but apparently, a lot of women back then did wear clothes by Claire McCardell. I‘ve never heard of her. I don‘t really follow fashion. I‘ve only heard of the more well known designers but I don‘t really care about wearing name brands.

kelli7990 (Continued in comments) I‘m perfectly fine buying my clothes at Walmart or on Amazon. I used to see a lot of kids at my high school wearing Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch and I thought,”They probably have a lot of money and they have perfect lives.” I always bought my school clothes at Walmart or plus size stores because that‘s all I could afford but I always looked nice. Not everyone can afford high end clothing. (edited) 4mo

I figured out what to do about this book not having pictures. I decided that if it mentions fashion then I‘m going to Google it. One of the fashion items that was mentioned in the last chapter was a diaper bathing suit so I googled it. This is a diaper bathing suit? It just looks like a regular bathing suit to me. I don‘t think I would want to wear a diaper to swim in. Wouldn‘t the bathing suit come off if you‘re swimming in the water?

Here‘s my progress on this book. I only read 1 chapter and it was 55 minutes. This is a Netgalley ARC that will be published on August 27 but I feel like it‘s taking me a long time to read because of the long chapters and there‘s no pictures. I‘m finding it interesting and kind of boring because I don‘t have any pictures to look at and it‘s taking me out of the book. I‘m having a hard time forming a mental image of the fashion.

kelli7990 (Continued in comments) Normally, I don‘t have a problem forming images in my head when I‘m reading but with this nonfiction book that‘s about fashion, I‘m trying to imagine what the fashion looked like back then but I‘m not seeing it. This is the type of book that would be better if it had pictures in it. (edited) 4mo

I‘m reading the tagged book this weekend. This is a Netgalley ARC I have to read. I‘m listening to it on audio. It‘s interesting hearing about the fashion from the WWII era but I think it would be better if I had some pictures I could look at too just so I could see what the clothes looked like back then and how people dressed. Maybe when the book is published, it will have some pictures.
