The Twisted Sword
The Twisted Sword: A Novel of Cornwall 1815 | Winston Graham
The Twisted Sword is the eleventh novel in Winston Graham's sweeping series of Cornwall, Poldark. Cornwall 1815. Demelza sees a horseman riding down the valley and senses disruption to the domestic contentment she has fought so hard to achieve. For Ross has little option but to accept the summons - and travel to Paris with his family, as an 'observer' of the French armed forces. Parisian life begins well with an exhilarating round of balls and parties. But the return of Napoleon brings separation, distrust and danger to the Poldarks . . . and always for Demelza there is the shadow of the secret she does not even share with Ross. 'From the incomparable Winston Graham... who has everything that anyone else has, then a whole lot more' Guardian

I apologise for inundating you with overdue reviews!

Book 11 and the penultimate book of the Poldark saga did not disappoint. How I love this series. I am actually not ready to leave this world yet so I have immediately started reading Bella Poldark, the series finale.

If you like strong, complex characters, beautiful scenery, and books replete with fascinating historical details then this series is for you.

Anna40 Why? I love reviews! :) 6y

Thousands of pages and eleven books in to a twelve book series and I finally discover why Cornish mine names are preceded by the word “Wheal”.

Who knew? 🤷🏼‍♀️

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Cool! I have Cornish ancestry - love learning Cornish words 6y

The second-last book in the Poldark series is set in 1815. This means interesting times ahead. Some family upheavals, including a scene that made me cry on the bus and another scene that left more mixed feelings. Only one more book left! 😢

I really struggled to read The Twisted Sword, there is so much sadness and heartbreak in it, always impending doom, much like The Black Moon but without the growing love of Drake and Morwenna to counteract it. That being said there is a lot that goes on involving the comeback of Napoleon and the location change to Paris France is nice but I found myself longing for Cornish shores. Can't wait to get into Bella Poldark. #Poldark
