8 posts | 4 read
With mystery, intrigue, and the hints of romance international bestselling author Julia Kelly is known for, Evelyne Redfern returns in Betrayal at Blackthorn Park. Freshly graduated from a rigorous training program in all things spy craft, former typist Evelyne Redfern is eager for her first assignment as a field agent helping Britain win the war. However, when she learns her first task is performing a simple security test at Blackthorn Park, a requisitioned manor house in the sleepy Sussex countryside, she cant help her initial disappointment. Making matters worse, her handler is to be David Poole, a fellow agent who manages to be both strait-laced and dashing in annoyingly equal measure. However, Evelyne soon realizes that Blackthorn Park is more than meets the eye, and an upcoming visit from Winston Churchill means that security at the secret weapons research and development facility is of the utmost importance. When Evelyne discovers Blackthorn Parks chief engineer dead in his office, her simple assignment becomes more complicated. Evelyne must use all of herand Davidsdetection skills to root out who is responsible and uncover layers of deception that could change the course of the war.

In this second outing of the Evelyne Redfern series, Evelyne takes on her first official assignment following her spy craft training to assist her country during WWII. She is tasked with investigating the efficacy of security measures at a weapons testing facility in rural Sussex, but ends up being plunged into a double murder investigation along with her handler/partner David Poole. I am continuing to enjoy this series, especially the 🔻

robinb characters (Evelyne is wonderful!). The plot lines are engaging and well thought out, the writing flows smoothly and is a pleasure to read and the banter and developing relationship between the mains is fun to watch.

Looking forward to (hopefully) many more adventures from this intrepid heroine. 4.25/5⭐️

This is the second in the series. I loved this first one. This one was okay but I found myself checking to see how much was left. It was a bit lackluster.

Thank you Minotaur Books & Macmillan Audio for both of my ARCs of this book! I enjoyed reading this book. I haven‘t read the first book in this series but this reads perfectly as a standalone book. I don‘t feel like you have to read the first book in order to read this.

On Sale: 10/1/24

Here‘s my reading progress for this Netgalley ARC I started and what the book is about. It‘s being published Oct 1. I‘m enjoying it. I wasn‘t sure if I would like it at first. I have 2 hrs and 29 mins left in the audiobook. It‘s the second book in a series but it reads like a standalone book.

The 2nd in a series about Evelyn Redfern who graduated from the typing pool to secret agent during WW II. The mystery was good and I‘m enjoying Evelyn‘s growth as a character. The audio production however took my attention from the story. I am not a fan of the breathy voiced narrator.

#ARC #NetGalley Out October 1st.

SilversReviews I wasn‘t that engaged with the first one or this one. I finished the first but not this one. Thanks for your post. 2mo

I got this email last week when the power was out after Hurricane Beryl hit us here in southeast TX last week. My power is back on but I still don‘t have internet so I‘m using my cellular data to access the internet. I‘m happy that I was accepted for another ARC because I had a terrible week last week. The worst part is that the hurricane hit us the day before my birthday and it‘s also the middle of the summer here so it‘s very hot.
