Luckily for Edward Eagers fans, the children in his latest book are just as lively and literary as those in Half Magic.--The New York Times Book Review

Pickpick

All of Edward Eager's books are terrific. I highly recommend them, residual as read-alouds.

"All books are magic, but some are more magical than others."
Eager's books are fun, and unlike a lot of classic American children's literature, they often include #somethingmagical.

merelybookish @Centique @ScientistSam @rabbitprincess Glad to see love for Eager. He's another children's lit author I didn't discover until adulthood. 7y
batsy Nice one! I was thinking of Half Magic for this prompt too ☺️ And another Quentin Blake cover! 7y
merelybookish @batsy Fun! I feel like we have interesting overlaps in our reading! 7y
batsy @merelybookish I know, right? It's nice ☺️ 7y
merelybookish @batsy It is! I'm reading a Christina Stead novel right now. I was hoping you might have read some of her stuff already so we could discuss. ☺️ 7y
batsy @merelybookish Oh man, I have not! Wait for it... She's on my TBR 😆 This is the story of my life. I look forward to your review, though. Just the title alone is enough to intrigue me #darkplaces 7y

Today's #somethingforsept is number in title...so OBVIOUSLY I immediately thought of this book. Edward Eager is life. 💕🐉📚

RealLifeReading Oh I've never heard of the author but the illustrations look like Quentin Blake's 8y
GlitteryOtters @RealLifeReading good eye! Jacket illustrations for this edition of the series are by him, but interior illustrations are by N.M. Bodecker. If new to Edward Eager, I'd suggest starting with either Half Magic or Knight's Castle--those are two of his best. If you like E. Nesbit, you'd probably like these (think E. Nesbit, but American and humor that is a slightly more on the silly side). I used to sell these by the truckload back in 99-2002... 8y
GlitteryOtters @RealLifeReading ...as "I'm done with the latest Harry Potter & what do I read next?!" books back when I worked in the original Borders bookstore. I grew up with Edward Eager, he is super fun. ? 8y
