Just reached 24 hours on the #24in48 readathon with 1 minute left on the above book's audiobook. My stats for the #24in48readathon are as follows:

Books read: 7.5 (the .5 is an audiobook I bailed on at the halfway point)
Pages read: 1,996
1 paperback
2.5 audiobooks
4 e-books including 3 graphic novels

Review for the above book will be posted tomorrow, when my reading addled brain is better able to write a review. And now, 😴.

Daisey Congratulations! 🎉 7y

ValerieAndBooks Just thinking it has been a long time since you've checked in here. I hope things are going well for you? 7y
GlitteryOtters @ValerieAndBooks so sorry...I got really sick right after the readathon & was out of commission for over a week. Since then I've been low energy during recovery & have been playing catch up around here. Have barely had time to read (still working on my first 2 books of the month). Also, I have surgery scheduled 3 weeks from now & have been trying to do all household tasks/deep cleaning &making/freezing food for post surgery time. Hope you are well 7y
ValerieAndBooks Good to hear from you. It can take a while to bounce back after being sick. And upcoming surgery? That's a lot on your mind for sure. I'll be thinking of you and hope you'll check in now and then, even if you're not reading, so we all know you're okay! 😘 7y

Book 11/150 for 2017. 5/5 ⭐️. Just as great as the first two books in this graphic novel trilogy. Highly recommended. I have 21 minutes left until I've read my 24 hours & I have roughly the same amount of time left on my last audiobook (How To Set a Fire and Why), so I'm off to close out my readathon. #24in48 #24in48readathon

Bailedbailed

Nope. Nope. Nope. I tried to finish this one out, but I just can't. I told myself I'd read the audiobook until I had reached the midway point & I could bail then if I felt I still hated it. Bailed at the exact midpoint. All of the "normal" characters have more issues than the mentally ill one. Never connected to a single character, all adults were atrociously stupid & unrealistically permissive. MCs have a v. unhealthy relationship. 1 ⭐️/5. NOPE.

Book 8/150 for 2017. 4.5/5 ⭐️. One of the better memoirs I've read lately. Part memoir, part love letter to his amazing mother. Well worth a read. Luv2readbookz Yes please! 😋 7y
britt_brooke Yum! 7y
Ilirwen Looks and sounds delicious. Recipe? 7y
GlitteryOtters @Ilirwen it is a major adaption/manipulation of the classic Betty Crocker cookbook zucchini bread recipe (should be all over Internet). Sub equal amount of blueberries for the zucchini listed, omit the nuts, raisins and spices, add 2 teaspoons lemon zest, add an extra 1/2 cup milk of your choice (I used soy) and, since I am vegan, I subbed Ener-G egg replacer for 4 eggs in recipe. 7y
GlitteryOtters @Ilirwen warning, though, this is my own adaption, so many not be perfect. I had huge blueberries, probably should have used a little less this time as, in places, the Bread tries to break apart from too high of a percentage of blueberry in the blueberries to bread ratio. 7y
Ilirwen Thanks:) I'm vegan too so I definitely prefer plant milk and egg replacer. :) 7y

Started off my @24in48 #readathon with this book on audio. One of the best things about audiobooks is being able to read while still doing morning chores. 👍👍 I won't be reading this straight through, but will be alternating it with my other books so I can keep reading while doing all of my usual daily chores/activities. I am a little over 2.5 hours in and loving this memoir so much. #24in48 #24in48readathon

My_novel_obsession I really really loved this book - I didn't do it on audio though. It would be a treat to listen to Trevor Noah read it. 7y
GlitteryOtters @Anovelobsession I am 1/3 of the way through so far and it is PERFECT having him read it. I chose the audio format solely because, last month, there was an Audible code to get it free on audiobook. I'm so glad I cashed in on it. 7y
GlitteryOtters @CouronneDhiver so far I am 1/3 of the way through it & I will say that--based on the first third of the book--it will be well worth the wait! 7y

GlitteryOtters @8little_paws yeah, Sundays are usually one of my busy days each week because usually my husband is either working or--if he's managed to get the day off that week (they rotate schedules at his work)--he is volunteering at the farm animal rescue sanctuary. Karen_V Always looking for a good vegan ice cream! Thanks for sharing 😃 7y
GlitteryOtters @Libby1 my thoughts exactly! 7y
GlitteryOtters @Karen_V it is really good! Coconut based, but without the coconutty aftertaste/sub flavor like the So Delicious coconut ice creams (my husband hates the flavor of coconut but misses the creaminess of dairy ice cream, so finding this was perfect for us). I first saw these out it CA a year or so ago, but our local Whole Foods only started carrying it recently, so I think it is still in the process of working its way into stores across the country. 7y

Speaking of #endpapers, does anyone remember these memorable end papers from this 60s/70s kid's mystery series? One of my proudest achievements as a book collector was tracking down & purchasing hardcover copies of all titles in the series back before the internet was awash in secondhand books. Book 5/150 for 2017. 3.75/5 ⭐️. A basic good mystery/thriller I picked up on sale on audio due to the narrator, Julia Whelan, being one of my absolute favorites (this is my 15th audiobook narrated by her). I figured out the mystery before the reveal (I usually do), but this did not diminish my enjoyment of the tale. Well narrated (as per usual with Whelan's work) and well written & paced, interesting characters & a good story.

rubyslippersreads I love her as a narrator. 7y
GlitteryOtters @rubyslippersreads isn't she so good?! I didn't realize how many audiobooks narrated by her that I owned until I did a search & a count today. This is actually the 3rd time I bought a sale audiobook half because the description was interesting and half because she narrated it (Girl Underwater & Falling Into Place being the other 2) 7y

Family time with my boys--my husband & Ziggy. I'm reading, my husband is computering & Ziggy is staring. This pretty much sums up our main interests. 😂 Too bad dogs cannot read, he looks a little bored (poor Stardust!).

tpixie #dogsonlitsy cute puppy 🐶 7y
ErinC Oh he's a doll! He looks just like my Chewie who I had to put down a year ago. Is he a golden? 7y
GlitteryOtters @ErinC yup! He's 8 years old, my husband brought him to our marriage (I brought two girls--a now 15 year old Husky & a now 12.5 year old Ridgeback/shepherd mix, so our house is pretty full of big, old dogs 😂) 7y

GlitteryOtters @tpixie thanks! He has the most enormous head, I swear (it's significantly bigger than mine!), but he's a cutie. 7y
SuperPunkNinja He looks like he'd appreciate a good ear rub. ❤ 7y
DebinHawaii 🐶❤️ 7y
GlitteryOtters @CherylDeFranceschi @DebinHawaii he says "????????!!!!" back (he's very enthusiastic! ?) @McShelfington he says "yes please, and a belly rub too. And possible a bite of your snack?" *gives puppy dog eyes ? * 7y
Zelma He looks so snugly. (edited) 7y

Pickpick

Book 3/150 for 2017. 4.75/5 ⭐️ What can I say about this book? It is fantastic fun! Ten year old me would have loved it just as much as 39 year old me does. An intelligent, spunky & independent kid sleuth going through adventures while solving a big mystery. Great characterization (and character development) of primary & secondary characters, lots of humor & a sequel coming soon (tagged below). I can't wait!

I generally like Gabrielle Zevin's books, but I couldn't seem to get much past the 2 hour in mark on this one on audiobook. Not sure if this will become a bail, or if I will return to this to try again, but for now it is a #DNF. #readjanuary

RealLifeReading I know a lot of people love this book and while I did finish it, it was only a so-so read for me 7y
GlitteryOtters @RealLifeReading yeah, I originally considered this one a bail, but after seeing all the love on Litsy, I'm thinking I might go back to it during one of the Readathons and try to read it again from the beginning. I'm not expecting to love it like so many do, but I'm thinking that maybe it needed more than a couple hours attention from me to grab me. We'll see. 7y
beagle.mama Nooooo!!!! LOL! I seem to take it so personally when a book I adore and have reread isn't loved. I know, it's not personal. It's funny because my feed has a couple of these posts today. Sorry it's not a homerun for you. 💜 7y

For today's #readjanuary: #BooksEveryoneButYouHasRead. No plans to read it either. (As I am an ornery reader who mostly dislikes books that are very popular with wide swaths of the population, I was actually paralyzed by too many options--couldn't figure out which one to choose out of several dozen titles that immediately came to mind!).

Zelma Me too! Me too! On all points. 👋 7y
CocoReads It's rare that I regret reading even bad books but these were truly terrible and I regret reading all of them. 7y
DebinHawaii I succumbed to pressure and read the first one and never had a desire to read any more. 😬 7y

Abby-J It just sounds so awful. 7y
lynneamch S&M just not of interest to me. I didn't (& won't) read these either, but I saw the spoof Fifty Shades: the Musical off-Broadway and it was HILARIOUS! It was touring for awhile. Worth seeing whether you liked (or read) the books, or not. Great dancing & a pro-feminist bent. Seriously. 7y
Blaire I've never read this either. Not sure I could get past the reportedly terrible writing. 7y
LazyOwl I've never read this either & have no desire to. I've the writing is not that great anyway 7y
[DELETED] 1409720085 Same. No regrets. 7y
Eyelit Same! 7y
LauraBeth I just can't 7y

I'm a bit minimalist when it comes to my #readingequipment. Cellphone & headphones--used either to listen to audiobooks, to listen to music while reading a physical book or, if ebook, used to read the book (usually while music plays on my headphones. My husband is a noisy sort & doesn't understand that I cannot read with Law & Order: SVU blaring away on his laptop 12 inches away from me). Optional winter equipment: warm & cozy blanket (see above)

CocoReads @GlitteryOtters when we first got married many moons ago, we were opposite in the noise department. I always had tv on (although more for background than to watch) and my husband always had to have quiet. I've discovered this winter though that except for sleeping, he cannot do quiet. If he's sitting down the tv must be on--usually at ear shattering volume. 7y
GlitteryOtters @CocoReads I just cannot tune out people talking...singing, yes, but talking I cannot tune out. It just makes me feel wildly overstimulated to have sentences pouring into my brain via both ears and eyes simultaneously. Plus, after years of service-related jobs I think my brain is just programmed to think that I have to pay attention to someone if they are talking (people would often walk up to you, not even address you or make sure you were... GlitteryOtters @CocoReads ...listening and start barking out information you had to retain (nothing worse than shelving books or stocking grocery shelves and having someone stealth walk up on your back and start spouting a list of books or products they need, STAT. And they tend to get mad if you ask them to repeat any of it, or miss remembering one of the half dozen items they just spouted at you). I don't think I will ever be able to untrain my brain. 7y
CocoReads Yep-I used to be in the service industry too. And there's a day care in my church where I work now. When I get home I just want some quiet. 7y
ChasingOm ❤ the Tardis blanket! 7y
GlitteryOtters @ChasingOm it was definitely one of my best wedding gifts! 7y

So much for not buying new books unless I had earned an Amazon gift card from Bing or Swagbucks to pay for it...🙄🙄🙄. I only had $1.31 in gift card funds left, but I purchased these 3 from the cooking-related & cookbook one day mega sale on Amazon right now. This history of Indian cooking looks particularly interesting. Adding it to the TBR, hopefully will be able to get to it soon! Http://TinyURL.com/Litsycookbooks

LeahBergen I read Curry several years ago and really enjoyed it. 👍🏼 7y
GlitteryOtters @LeahBergen I am so glad to hear that! It sounded really interesting, and the reviews were quite good. Also, food history is one of my favorite kinds of history! 7y

A slightly battered (loved?) #TitleWithAProperName for today's #readjanuary.

RealLifeReading Pretty cover! 7y
GlitteryOtters @RealLifeReading this whole series of Virago Modern Classics had some pretty gorgeous art pieces on the cover. I think this is my favorite era of Virago books (I should share more of them...even after my last library cull I think I still have a good 20-25 of these on my shelf) 7y
