If someone tells you to “go to Hell,” you can with this book. Engelhaupt writes half guidebook/half history that explores locations throughout the world that either takes visitors into the underworld or can be characterized as “hell on Earth.” It‘s a fascinating look at creepy, supernatural, and toxic places.
I‘d also include Centralia in Pennsylvania as a location—fire under this once large mining town sends steam and toxins in the air.
Librarybelle I especially enjoyed the scientific and historic reasonings behind each location. It‘s a good starter to exploring some interesting locations with unique connections to science, history, and religion. Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for this! 5mo
