Abortion
Abortion: Our Bodies, Their Lies, and the Truths We Use to Win | Jessica Valenti
1 post | 1 read | 4 to read
In a stirring and succinct examination of post-Roe America, one of the most successful and visible feminists of her generation (Washington Post) takes on whats become the countrys most resonant political issue. In her most urgent book yet, New York Times bestselling author Jessica Valenti shines a light on the conservative assault on womens freedom, cutting through the misinformation and overwhelm to inform, engage, and enrage. From the attacks Americans know about to the ones anti-abortion lawmakers and groups are trying to hide, Valenti details the tactics and horrors that shes been painstakingly tracking in her acclaimed newsletter, Abortion, Every Day. Abortion gives voice to womens frustration and outrage in a moment when theyre fed up with being talked over and diminished. And in an election year when abortion is dominating the national conversation, Valenti provides the language, facts, and context readers need to feel confident when talking about the attacks on their bodies and freedom. Abortion is a handbook for the overwhelming majority of Americans who support abortion rights, whether theyre seasoned activists or those just starting to learn. With the wit, expertise, and blunt moral clarity thats made her writing popular for decades, Valenti offers an essential manifesto in an urgent moment.

We all have certain political issues that are our most important. For me, abortion rights are among them for the health and safety of all women. So, I keep up on what‘s going on. But I still didn‘t know some of the infuriating things Valenti reveals in this factual, straightforward clearinghouse of what‘s happened with abortion since the fall of Roe. This is a vital resource for all in the US.

ChaoticMissAdventures I follow her on all social medias, she is incredibly informed and so easily relays information. She is great. 6d
GingerAntics I‘ve always been of the opinion that what a person does with their body is their business, as long as it doesn‘t harm another person. This is apparently amazingly radical these days. 🤷🏼‍♀️ If a woman wants or needs an abortion, that‘s none of my business. It‘s none of anyone‘s business but hers. I feel like I‘ve been radicalised by the conservative push to force women to be pregnant. 6d
Hooked_on_books @ChaoticMissAdventures She‘s terrific. She does really good work. I‘m glad she‘s making good information accessible to everyone and especially to young women. 6d
Hooked_on_books @GingerAntics I hear you. It‘s not something that should be legislated. Politicians have proven over and over that they don‘t understand the medicine, so they need to back the F off. 6d
GingerAntics @Hooked_on_books 100%!!! I usually hold this position for everything from tattoos and piercings to sex work and posing for playboy. If you want to, if you‘re consenting, if you‘re making the choice, if no one is getting hurt, you do you. Maybe that is radical. I don‘t know. No one is worried about most of that stuff, though. Just the abortion stuff. 🙄 5d
