I'm hooked on this train wreck of a protagonist and somewhat worried about how much I identify with the romantic plot.

Finished this book on the train on Wednesday. A former cop, now PI with a drug addiction, tries to find a missing girl. So, I had a love-hate relationship with the main character, but he also has a love-hate relationship with himself. I think a lot could have been done for his redemption and hope for more of that in the sequel. I kept wanting to like him but then he would do something terrible lol. But the story is very action-packed and intense!
I have this theory that the number of blurbs (and words in said blurbs) on the back of a book is inversely proportional to how good the book ends up being. If a book is good, let it tell you itself. The Second Girl did nothing to contradict that theory. Hated it.
Great story although the drug use of the main detective was distracting to the reader.
Swinson takes what could be a predictable set up, and makes it feel fresh. He never lets up, pushing the reader deeper in the crime ridden back alleys of the metropolitan DC area. It‘s a top notch crime tale, with a unique but disturbing main character, that comes together well. Narrator Christopher Ryan Grant captures the feel of the novel perfectly.
Been in a decent sci-fi groove lately but was looking for a good change of pace thriller and George Pelecanos said good things about it so why not?
Been in a bit of a reading slump the last couple weeks and then I stumble across this book at my local library. You've got a drug-addicted former cop trying to make ends meet as a PI who, while robbing a drug house to resupply his own stash, stumbles upon a kidnapped teenage girl.
This story didn't take its foot off the gas for a second and it was a wild, enjoyable ride. Highly recommended.
Almost finished with this one. This has to be one of the most unlikable characters I've read in a while. The story is quite good though. #septphotochallenge #somethingforsept
Top-notch crime fiction. Set in DC with a fascinating narrator and blurbed by Tana French -- I loved it.
