Finally picked up Flirting Lessons by Jasmine Guillory—because who can resist a queer love story? After some heavy reads, this was the perfect light, heartfelt escape. I loved the character growth, real reflection, and how it avoided stereotypes. Sweet, genuine, and exactly the cozy read I needed.

Taylor feels like she‘s being left behind by her best friend. Constantly teased by everyone that she can‘t keep a relationship, she makes a bet that she won‘t sleep with anyone the entire summer.
Enter Avery, recently out of a terrible relationship with her latest boyfriend, she wants to finally begin dating women, but she has no idea how to flirt with them.
So when Taylor offers to give her flirting lessons she jumps at the chance.

Cute sapphic romance. I liked both of the main characters and found the introvert of the pair most relatable. Fun premise with good emotional growth on both sides of the pairing.

I have been reading contemporary romance for 5 years now (hey, one good thing from spring 2020 🫠) and Jasmine Guillory‘s books have been there with me from the beginning. Reading this felt like returning to a conversation with a friend who I trust to take me on a banter-filled, snack-laden, spicy journey through the ups and downs of relationships. Guillory‘s first queer romance, this was exactly what I wanted right now. She‘s a must-read for me.

Has Jasmine Guillory gotten too successful for a hard edit? As usual, her characters and general storyline are fantastic. But this felt so uneven! Some of the dialogue felt awkward & unnecessary, the lessons got repetitive and there were too many one-dimensional friends. And since this is nearly 400 pages, it didn‘t need filler. The best bits were the more unique bits and the more flushed-out friendships.

I thought I might like this sapphic story more than the straight romance by Guillory I'd read, which was her first book, but I have to conclude she is not for me. I find her writing and characterization very bland and basic.

Wasn't too into the #audiobook for this one either. If there are dual POVs I really think there should be two voice actors, not just one.

My recent #bookmail has a visual theme, even if one is very, very different from the others! Thanks to The Ripped Bodice for the signed Jasmine Guillory books, and to Haymarket Books for a club that exposes me to books I would probably never otherwise encounter.
